Auckland City

Advantages: Great place to see views of city
Disadvantages: It is a city and New Zealand is so much more beautiful to go rural

who loves walking as there is not much else to do on the island. It was a great way to see views of the city and to explore the island. Night life: Auckland is very busy at night and has a great many places for evening entertainment; a lot of the bars have great live music. Whilst in Auckland we frequented a great pub called Danny Dolan's, the live music was fantastic and the atmosphere was full of fun. Another great thing to do would be Minus 5, where everything is made from ice, but costs $30 to get in a bit out of a backpackers price range sadly. Places to stay: This all depends on your budget. I was backpacking and found that Auckland has a great many hostels available for backpackers all ranging in price. A tip for anyone backpacking, look around town before using the internet at any of the hostels as we found a place ...

Not the best but not the worst

Advantages: Great view on roof, cheap
Disadvantages: no free lockers and not that friendly

Albert Park Backpackers in Auckland is a very cheap place to stay, the location is great but it was not the friendliest hostel I have stayed in. I flew in from LA which is a 12 hour flight and was pretty tired as I am sure you can imagine, I pleased that the directions I had from the hostel where easy to follow, I just had to jump on a shuttle bus, this was easy to find and cost $15. Address: Albert Park Backpackers 27-31 Victoria Street East Auckland, New Zealand Phone: 09 309 0336 Fax: 09 309 9474 Email: bakpak@albertpark.co.nz To get to the hostel from town walk down from Sky City visitors centre over Queen Street and into Victoria Street East and you will find it on the right, opposite the Victoria St car park. Reception: The staffs at Albert Park are friendly enough but are not very forthcoming when it ...

Auckland

Advantages: everything within easy access, friendly people, great atmosphere, plenty to do.
Disadvantages: becoming a victim of its own popularity.

and history of New Zealand. The Zoo is another great day out if only to watch the randy ostrich running around its enclosure. For the more energetic of you there is the Coast to Coast Walkway, which takes you through the City's parks and inner suburbs and up Mount Eden for more panoramic views. Also the local vineyards are home to some of the country's best wines and are worth a visit. If you fancy lying on the sand head to North Shore, where you have the popular Takapuna or, my favourite, the more secluded Narrow Neck beach. The nightlife is also first class. For such a small city it buzzes. There is the hum of the bars, clubs and restaurants in the Viaduct, or further into town there are several more dotted around, near the backpacker hostels and also on Ponsonby Rd and the infamous K-Road. Auckland really is an excellent example of how ...
