Communication IS important

Advantages: good support before leaving the country
Disadvantages: dismal support once abroad

...I saw an advert for Project Trust. They stated that they offered a whole year in your selected country, most of the organization I had looked at only offered 3 or 6 months. I gave them a ring straight away and they took my details so that they could send me an information pack.

This pack arrived in a just a few days time and was very comprehensive. It contained a folder with brief information about all of the projects that they offered ...
...West Coast of Scotland, where Project Trust is based. I had to pay for transport, but food and accommodation, and the ferry ticket were paid for by Project Trust.

On arrival on Coll, with about 30 other prospective volunteers we were taken to where we would be staying for the week. We were split into groups of two and three and were put up by members of the Coll community. The idea behind this was to monitor how well we could adapt ... more

My Experience as a Project Trust Ex-Volunteer

Advantages: Overall Experience Very Positive
Disadvantages: Partner pairing & project selection isn't always good

...review both before taking my Project Trust (PT) gap-year and afterwards made me want to give my opinions on the organisation & its pro's and con's, Here goes: Basicly, taking a gap year was something I had always wanted to do, and as soon as I got a chance, I was raring to go. I found PT on the Internet, then heard a schools talk by an ex-volunteer - vaguely convinced, I applied for an info pack. As a politics student (cynic) I tried to find fault ...
...The main figurehead of Project Trust is a semi-aristocrat, Lady Lavinia Maclean Bristol, who all applicants have a 15 minute interview/discussion with. She was quite down to earth with 90% of the selection group, but for some reason, she decided to massively interrogate a few people (usually girls with single parents) and became quite mean towards them. Speaking afterwards to people in other selection groups, this seemed to happen every time. Maybe ...

More Fishy Business

Advantages: A lovely day out
Disadvantages: A bit expensive

, creatures that you?ll find in rock pools along the coast. The Aquarium is working with the Morecambe Bay Conservation project and the Cumbrian Rivers Trust to ensure that the coastlines are protected. Next is the Morecambe Bay section, here you?ll find examples of cod, rays and British sharks. If you look closely you find lobster in there too. The Aquarium does talks here 3 times a day to educate people on the variety of life that can be found in the bay. You then have to go upstairs, where they?ve built a special tank which is on three layers. The tank houses brown trout and the layers ensure that they are able to jump ?upstream? as they would in the wild. Also in this are there?s a carp tank, with koi carp and mirror carp, and a 3D wall display of the Lake District to follow. In the next few sections you?ll move away from British ...

I moved to Nova Scotia on my own at 18 and fell in love!

Advantages: the people and the land make the place what it is, its a stunny place to be.
Disadvantages: Very widespread, and little Sunday shopping

. There are a few malls scattered around, but nothing to write home about. The people; however, are the main attraction. Nova Scotian's will stop their car on a highway if it means somebody wants to cross the road. They are that friendly. And that vibe projects throughout. Whether in a restaurant, in the street, or walking by the ocean, people stop, talk, ask questions, and do it in a very polite, trusting way. You become absorbed in the culture and don't want to leave. I could go on forever, but decided to leave it simple for now. Feel free to ask me any other questions though! ...

CORNWALL - where holidays run at a different pace!

Advantages: not so far to travel,no airport delays, more enviromental to travel less distance
Disadvantages: Motorway traffic,Weather ( if you are unlucky)

into the roadways, a swimming pool, tennis court, and lush toilets and showers(check their website - www.tregarton.co.uk) near Mevagissey, it is 2miles from the Lost Gardens of Heligan and not far from the Eden Project, there are quite a few National trust places to visit within 20 miles too (like Lanhydrock, Antony, Cothele, which are all houses or gardens like Glendurgan which has its own beach,or Trellissick and also lots of coastline and beaches for walking sitting or simply admiring ). The owners have various rates for different times of the year and also offer deals when staying for more than 1 week, our family holiday cost just £165 for 8 nights for 5 people plus the cost of travelling and food. Camping or Caravanning is getting more popular but it isn't for everyone, so try the other types of accomodation and givr the county a try ...
