The best thing about Cyprus is that there is something for everyone. The people are friendly, food is fantastic and very cheap, the pace of life is noticeably slower, and the weather can't be beaten. There is plenty to see on the island. If you want sightseeing, I would recommend a day in the Troodos Mountains, where the views are superb, and after a few sweltering days on the beach, the temperature a little cooler (you are 6000 feet above sea level)! There are numerous nature trails around the pine forests to keep you occupied. Jeep Safaris into the mountains operate on a daily basis, but the driving conditions may raise your eyebrows. (If not your hairline!) The beaches are excellent all around the island, very clean and the Mediterranean Sea is warm and crystal clear, which puts you in just the mood for the variety of watersports to keep you amused, from paragliding to banana boat rides. Like many other resorts in Cyprus, Protaras is blessed with beautiful beaches, friendly people, lots to do, and of course, superb weather. Older people, or parents, depending how you look at it, are also catered for with a whole host of great restaurants and more relaxed bars offering fun for the family. I would truly recommend visiting Protaras at least once, and don't be suprised if you are ready to go back for more as soon as you return from your holiday. It is also a fantastic place for kids with great beaches, plenty of places to eat, watersports and amusement parks all within easy reach. There is great night life at some of the resorts, for example Ayia Napa in the south eastern corner. A shortage of holiday spending money is no real handicap in Cyprus. Most of my spending went on postcards! Food is of excellent freshness, variety, and value for money is an understatement! If you've never been to Cyprus, GO NOW! If you have been before, I'll be seeing you there next year!!
