My wife and I spent two weeks in the Adelais Bay hotel, about 15 minutes walk from Protaras. During our time in Cyprus we travelled around a considerable part of the island, and came to the conclusion that the area arounf Protaras was bar far the nicest. Firstly, Fig-Tree Bay is without question the best beach on the island - and one of the best beaches I've ever been on in the Med. The sand is clean and golden, and the water is warm. There are no stones or seaweed to contend with in the water either. If you like watersports all sorts are catered for - boating, skiing, jet-skiing, scuba-diving and we even tried the para-sailing (and have a certificate to prove it!!!)
Protaras itself is well suited for those who don't want the "Ayia Napia" style resort. The town has few clubs, preferring to accomodate small friendly pubs and restaurants. There are plently of shops open each evening, although after a while you do get the impression if you've seen one you've seen them all.
We really enjoyed our two weeks in Protaras, and would without doubt love to return to it again in the future.
