Advantages: Scenery, value for money Disadvantages: Not much of a nightlife for the wild crowd
attraction is the heads - two great sandstone cliffs guarding the mouth of the lagoon which connects the estuary with the sea. A great lookout has been erected on the Eastern Head, with spectacular views of the lagoon, Leisure Isle and Knysna. The Western Head is a privately owned nature Reserve. You can taste the best fish and steak dishes at the local restaurant there, which is very well priced.
The Knysna Lagoon is one of the few places along the coast and in the world that supports a oyster hatchery. And the Knysna oysters are reputedly among the tastiest in the world.
Although this area doesn't really have the nightlife, there is still loads of fun to be had in Knysna. You have adventure sports like skydiving, canoeing, absailing, hiking, diving and paragliding. Loads of sports facilities on offer include tennis courts, a beautiful Gary ...
i stayed at this hotel over the winter period of 2008 , and i just found this place to be the worst hotel i hadf ever stayed in , dont get me wrong the staff were great but the standard of my room was horrible , out of date tatty and the restraunt wasnt so up to date either , service was great , the views were amazing and the locals were very fiendly, the hotel is based next to the quay side in poole over looking the second biggest natural harbour in the world , with the national park (brownsea island ) in view it is a place you need to see , overall i did enjoy my stay here even though there was no heating in my room and i was brought an elecric heater as a replacement i payed £89 for a single room , i would like to say this is a great place for familys that like a quite restfull holiday with a peaceful atmosphere, thistle hotel ...
Advantages: Beautiful town, lovely people, fits any budget Disadvantages: Roads can be very busy during school holidays
hotels to self-catering, and you could even rent a boat and sleep on the lagoon.
The locals are friendly and laid back, and even though it might not be the shopping mecca of the world, there are many small shops selling local arts and crafts which I find fascinating, as well as roadside stalls selling African arts and curious at very reasonable prices.
Visiting the oyster farm situated on the edge of the lagoon is a must, and going for a cruise on the lagoon to the famous Knysna Heads very relaxing and enjoyable.
If you’re lucky enough to holiday in that area, don’t just drive through Knysna, stay for a night or two (or more) - you will not regret it!
