Although this review comes under public transport, it is in fact on one particular area - namely, buses. And yes, I hear the groans going through you all as you read this too. But as I have had to rely on the joys of public transport since about October, I feel that I am able to talk about it with freedom now. The pros of public transport (buses): Dependant on where you live, you can get a bus to most places within most hours between 0500 and 2300 ... ...service. Cons for public transport (buses): They don't run 245/7, unlike the taxi service. They don't take you from door to door, unlike the taxi service. Sadly not everywhere is serviced by a bus again, just like a taxi service. Therefore, you will need to be fit in order to walk to get a bus at certain times (namely first things in the morning along with last thing at night). A summary: Buses are only OK, when you know where you are going along ...

Advantages: cheap, sensible system Disadvantages: taxi drivers!
...It seems odd these days that I used to have an irrational fear of publictransport. I used to be convinced that every bus I got on would be the wrong one and I would end up in Outer Mongolia as soon as I boarded, and all the trains would go in the opposite direction to the one I expected and then leave me at a station in the middle of nowhere with nobody to tell me how to get home. Fortunately I learnt that this doesn’t usually happen, and, having mastered the British PublicTransport System, I decided I was ready for the Czech equivalent.

Advantages: Cheap, efficient and reliable Disadvantages: None at all
...Why can't our own cities learn from the likes of Berlin? The publictransport in this city is cheap, clean and reliable. The system is integrated, so you can buy a period ticket (at a bargain price) that will cover you on the buses, trams (S-Bahn) and underground (U-Bahn).
After buying a ticket it doesn't become active until you validate it - make sure you do, because the penalties for travelling without a valid ticket are severe. Of course, you can always do the 'stupid English tourist' bit, but I don't recommend it! You don't normally need to actually show the ticket, which makes getting on and off the various vehicles much quicker than in this country. Occasionally someone will come around and check them, so have it handy.
Buses on the major routes are sometimes crowded, but they are clean and run frequently. The S-Bahn is more...
