Puerto Escondido.
I would say that this destination is one of my favourites. Puerto Escondido (meaning ‘hidden port’ in Spanish) is a small town on the Pacific coast of Southern Mexico. It has become popular with surfers due to its most excellent surf (dude!), but is as yet little known, and therefor remains ‘hidden’.
You can travel by bus from either Oaxaca (12hrs), Acapulco (3 or 4hrs) or Mexico City (loads of hrs!) all ... ...(I did!). Upon arrival (most likely by bus) you will disembark at the top of the hill a few kilometres from the beach area.. You can take a taxi (for about 20 pesos) down to the beach area, where there’s a stretch of Hotels, bars and restaurants. My girlfriend and I stayed in a place called Hotel Rockaway at the end of the beach.

...for us there is still Puerto Escondido. Known for its waves by surfers, this little corner of the country has a lot more to offer. Don’t get scared by the crowd in the beach, nor by the pollution if you go a little farther and take a tour to go see the crocodiles, the iguanas and the turtles you will also discover some almost virgin beaches full of beauty. Also for a really small budget you will get to eat like a king. But stay away from the ... ...over Mexico and not just Puerto Escondido:
- Stay away from running water when you are thirsty, other wise you will get sick. And buy your bottled water in a store or a supermarket that way you know you won’t pay 3 times its price.
- Always try to pay in pesos, and don’t carry more than a hundred of them in cash. But never run out of cash because souvenirs will mostly tempt you where you can not use your visa.
