Went to Puerto Galera twice already and had the chance to visit all the beaches last time I was there. Puerto Galera in Mindoro is perfect for foreigners staying in Manila who does not have much resources and time to go to Boracay but still wants a place to go snorkeling, diving, bar hopping, and yes just plain swimming.
A good 3-4 hour travel via bus and boat from Manila (a number of hotels already offer 2 to 3 days packages for Puerto Galera), ... ...sports. Peak season for Puerto Galera in general though is around April to early June, so better make the reservations or you will be sleeping under the stars! It’s not illegal by the way to bring camping gears and set-up in White Beach (its actually a public beach!). ...

...to Mindoro, where you can make a stop over in PuertoGalera, also a popular beach resort. In Middle-Luzon you can climb the volcano Taal or visit Pagsanjan, the area where the film Apocalypse Now was shooted.
Better than the Lonely planet is the travel guide from Jens Peters (he was the author of the lonely planet from 1997) “Philippines”.
