Puerto Plata Village Resort and Spa, Puerto Plata

Advantages: Relaxing surroundings, helpful staff, lovely setting
Disadvantages: Noisy hotel next door, a long way to go for a week.

...We went here on honeymoon over the Christmas period. We spent a week in the resort (the journey was rather tiring for a week). The resort is generally very pleasant and a relaxing place to stay, however we had a room in the 'quiet' block which is away from the main pool area. Sadly a neighboring hotel played very loud music from midnight to 4am most nights, meaning that while it was very quiet and relaxing during the day we didn't get the best night's sleep. Food ok -sometimes lovely, cocktails great, all incusive wine awful! Gala dinner was very nice. Lots of large-ish groups. Staff friendly (though more so to large tippers!). The ideal place to take lots of books and soak up the sunshine.... Read review

...I stayed at this 3+ star hotel for 2 weeks last March and overall i was pretty impressed. This hotel located at Puerto Plata was beautifully decorated and very clean and well kept, it seemed more like a 4 star hotel that a 3 star. We paid a little under £2,000 for two weeks all inclusive and this was for a double room with sea views. The hotel is right on the beach so the views were absolutely amazing.. We found most of the staff friendly and we got checked in within 15 minutes. On arrival our bags were collected and taken straight away so we could go straight to the reception to check in. This hotel is ideal for keen golfers and watersports fans as the hotel is right on the beach and has a large golf course to the side of the hotel.
