We visited Puerto Vallarta in May of this year for 2 weeks as a family group of 13.
Such a fantastic destination with extremely wonderful people who can't do enough to help you.
The cost of the holiday (arranged through Thomas Cook) was insignificant compared to the quality of the resort. As we went "All Inclusive" it was easy to come and go as you pleased, free sporting activities and evening shows were wonderful and well organised. External activities like horse-riding, swimming with dolphins, and scuba diving were reasonably priced. The only recommendation I have as far as the dolphins were concerned is that it's better to see them in their natural environment so rather than go to an enclosure, take out a jet-ski or sail boat and surf alongside them in the beautiful Bay of Banderas.
This holiday was so wonderfully relaxing that it has encouraged us to return next May. Why May? This is when you have the best weather - no rain - the rainy season is June to September - so bare this in mind if you choose to visit.
Where did we stay? The brilliant Royal de Cameron Costa Flamingos in the district of Nayarit. 20 minutes by bus from the Airport.

I'm trying to decide whether to go to Cancun or Puerto Vallerta, and no-one seems able to help. I'm really interested in looking at the History of Mexico and looking at the ancient sites.
Are there many to look at from Puerto Vallerta?
Apart from watersports, are there many activites?
From reading the opinions it seems that Cancun has more activities, but Puerto Vallerta is the better resort.
Can anyone help?
