Advantages: Relaxing, nice pool area and beach, shuttle bus to Alghero. Disadvantages: Hotel drinks quite expensive, pool water was very chlorinated.
I chose to go to Alghero, Sardinia after looking at Ryan Air's fly for a penny (+tax and charges which were low) site. I also wanted somewhere which will still have good weather in October. We were lucky because it was very hot for four of the five days we stayed.
The PuntaNegra hotel is just a short ride from the airport and cost about 20 euros by Taxi, the people behind us in the taxi queue were also going to the same hotel (realised only when we go to hotel reception) so worth asking if any one wants to share a taxi.
We ate at the hotel that night as we arrived quite late and it was very dark and we did not know what dining options were in the local area. The hotel meal was a set 4 course menu. I wasn't too keen on the food or the restaurant and it seemed quite rushed. We ate out for our other meals. Breakfast was nice but simple ...
Advantages: Lovely beaches, fantastic food Disadvantages: Praying Mantis are on the loose!!! Entertainment all in Italian
!
The room was very nice, but we were more interested in the beach, which was just a short walk over the road. The sand was hot so we quickly jumped into the sea, which was very refreshing and so clear! It was amazing.
The food that evening was fantastic, it was a buffet style, with starters of olives, feta cheese, salad, meats and then a choice for the main course, steak, pasta or fish, all very tasty, well it would be rude not try everything!
That evening we went for a walk into the old town of Alghero, although there was a bus, we thought we would walk off the calories. The walk was 45 minutes and I soon regretted wearing heels! But it was worth it once we got to the old town, it was like stepping back in time, and it was very busy. I had sex on the beach, the cocktail, at the Jamacan Inn, and it was the best I've ever had ...
Advantages: Close to Beach and Old Town. Disadvantages: Not great to look at from outside, but good inside.
This Hotel The ALMA d ALGHERO is just the place for a short stay in Alghero. Location is fine, within short stone throw of the Beach and close enough to the Old Town to walk your dinner off. (about 20 min slow stroll). The rooms are clean and bright and the showers large enough for even large people.
The staff are very friendly and welcoming.
Breakfast time there is a good range to choose from. Cerials, cheeses, meats breads, fruits, cakes and even a sausage heating machine.
Nice little touches like the large bowl of apples placed in reception for the guests.
We would certainly use this Hotel again.
Bar prices resonable 3 Euros for large Amereto/Ice at night.
There is a super market within 5 mins walk.
Free Car Parking also available.
The Airport is close to the town, there is a Bus service from the Airport to Centre of Town ...
