Advantages: Amazing experience! once in a life time. Disadvantages: Dangerous heat levels in summer.
Seeing the great pyramids is definitely an experience to remember, and I would say it is a must for anyone lucky enough to visit Egypt. If you're staying in Cairo then the pyramids are on your doorstep, although for anyone like myself who stayed on the Red sea you can expect a 9hour coach journey (or 1.45 by air if you have the cash). The pyramids are situated just outside Cairo which is a fantastic city with so much going on. A good guide definitely ... ...from traders all round the pyramids for next to nothing. if you get the chance to inside the pyramid do it! It's cramped, sticky and very claustrophobic but you'll regret not taking the chance if you don't. Bare in mind that there is little shade around the pyramids and during summer months temp can reach 45 and above so take plenty of water and even an umbrella for shade if you vulnerable to the heat. The traders around the pyramids can be a pain ...

Advantages: location location location Disadvantages: further away from downtown
...this hotel is probably the most unique hotel in the world as it is the one which you wake u and can actually see the great pyramids from, so close that you think you can reach out and touch them!! ok not that close but you know what i mean.
we stayed here and it is literally awesome how close you are to the pyramids, waking up and seeiing them in their glory, was fantastic. so in this respect, it is a fantastic place to stay.
my advice would be that if you plan to come to cairo for a couple or 3 days from your holiday base n egypt, then split cairo up into 2 parts. downtown where you are near the nile and the hubbub of the city. and Giza, where you see the pyramid, sphinx etc. at Giza, stay overnight in this hotel so you get the best location, at an affordable price.
downsides are that when you book, be very specific about...

Advantages: Well worth the money Disadvantages: Very tiring, if you can call it a disadvantage
...Planet map, a bit sketchy but it is achievable. Otherwise you can take a taxi for about 10EGP. If you are extremely well read and knowledgeable about Egyptian history than the museum will be wonderful but if like me you have minimal knowledge than it will just something to pass the time by. You have to pay extra for the place where the mummies are kept. Museums are personal, some people hate them and some love them.
The pyramids in Giza are within easy reach from Sara Inn. Once again you can take public transport. A metro to Giza station and from there a bus. It is quite easy and can be done without wasting too much time. A taxi should only cost you 20EGP. You must make sure that the taxi driver takes you to the official entrance though as there are two entrances to the pyramids. You wont have this problem if you take a bus. We were...

Advantages: The most stunning ancient monument(s) in the world Disadvantages: Lack of visitor facilities - Hawkers
...No matter how much you think you know about the great pyramid at Giza or how impressive you imagine it to be, seeing it up close for the first time is an experience everyone should treat themselves to.
The Basics
The Giza site is located in the suburbs of Cairo, and if you're not arriving by coach on an organised tour, can easily be reached by Taxi from the centre of town (fare around £20E). For those who enjoy the true local experience, buses also run regularly to the site from the bus station near the Egyptian museum (fare - a couple of pence!).
Entry to the site requires a ticket (around £25E) which allows you access to the site; to wander around the pyramids and visit the Sphynx. The ticket price doesn't however allow you to enter any of the pyramids, for this you will need a seperate ticket.
The Pyramids
