Having just returned from the Pyramisa, I feel I had to write a review about this hotel because of all the other derogatory remarks that seem to have been made about the place.

Like everyone else on here, we were concerned after we had booked it to come on Trip Adviser and see that people were giving the Pyramisa really bad reviews..after all, we only get one 2-week holiday abroad a year and we really didn't want to waste it on something that was horrible.

So, nervously we arrived and were actually pleasantly suprised from the moment we entered the hotel to the moment we left. The reception staff were fine - okay, not overly friendly, but then I suppose you get worse from staff in English hotels - but we were checked into our room immediately and our cases arrived very shortly afterwards.

The room itself was exactly like the one we saw in the picture when we booked the hotel. It was clean, comfortable, had a sea view (that we had asked for) and had everything you could possibly want for a base. Lets face it, who actually goes to a country like Egypt to sit in their hotel room all day watching TV?

There were a few restaurants in the all inclusive package and while the food there was sometimes a bit repetetive, it was actually really good! I don't understand people who seem to want to moan about the food all the time - you get what you pay for and this was by no means the most expensive hotel we could have booked ourselves into. You can get a really bad meal in England a lot easier than you can here.

Neither myself nor my partner were ever ill from the food, nor did we think it was bad quality or of a poor standard. There was always something there that we liked and the desserts were delicious. The Pizzeria was good and had pizzas cooked in an oven to order, definitely worth a visit if you weren't starving hungry and wanted something simple.

There were other restaurants that you could pay to go to including a Chinese and an Indian - they were both really busy so I suppose that must mean that they were good, although neither of us like spicy food so we gave them a miss.

There was a really large swimming pool and a smaller one - neither which were freezing, although this is a very subjective thing to say I know! We chose the smaller pool to use as a base most of the time because it was quieter and had more shade. The pool attendants were very friendly and we never had a problem with finding a sunbed, despite the fact that people did seem to reserve them before they arrived in the mornings.

The snorkelling was good and although there was no actual sand, the views were spectacular and there was always a nice cooling breeze - it was so hot and sunny all the time!

The only thing that did sometimes annoy us was the fact that this was definitely a hotel targetted at the Russians and Eastern Europeans. There were only about three or four other couples/families there that were English and while that doesn't bother me at all (I don't go on holiday to socialise with other Brits and sometimes get embarrassed by their poor behaviour abroad) the Russians/Eastern Europeans that we encountered there were some of the rudest and most arrogant people I have ever come across I'm afraid.

They queue-jumped in the restaurants, pushed in at the bar, were horrible to the poor, well meaning Egyptian staff and were generally loud and obnoxious the whole time we were there. If you ignore them and just get on with enjoying yourself and relaxing, you will be fine but by the end of it we did find ourselves letting doors slam shut behind us without worrying because we had it done to ourselves so many times!

So in short, please don't believe all the bad reviews you read about this hotel. It isn't the most luxurious hotel in the world but for the money we paid for two weeks in an all inclusive resort, it was by no means horrible or the worst place we have visited and I feel that I should really stick up for it because it does seem to have been slated quite a lot.

If you are looking for a proper 5 star luxury hotel with English food, Sky TV 24 hours a day and a home-from-home 'Brits abroad' style environment then don't choose this hotel.

However if you are looking for a pleasant, clean relaxing and good value for money base from which to explore this lovely country and it's amazing sea life, choose the Pyramisa because it is by no means as bad as everyone says.
