QE2 cruise ship

... Well, he looked, he pondered and suddenly he said "Hey there is a great offer on the QE2". "Oh no, she said, that sounds terribly snobby, how can I tell anyone that I am going on that boat?" But on looking further into it, this sounded the perfect cruise for us, so he booked it. "I ... Read review

But I don't like BOATS she said, ha ha!

Advantages: Pure luxury, see loads of different countries in one holiday
Disadvantages: Loads of stairs to climb.

...the very large sign says QE2 terminal. We queued for about three minutes and then checked in.

Check in.

Hand in your tickets, smile at the camera, hand over your credit card for them to swipe, and collect some information leaflets and your card with your atrocious picture on it. Lastly you are given a letter and sent on your way.

Wander through to the waiting area. Here it is like an airport terminal, ...
...carried a wide selection of QE2 labelled gifts which cost the earth, we bought some playing cards for $25 and were a bit shocked, but as we still use them a couple of years later I guess they were worth it.

On board you pay for nothing, apart from shopping and drinks everything is included in the price. Your personal shopping and any drinks you have at any of the bars or restaurants are charged to your room and either they take it ... more

The Northern Odyssey onboard the QE2

Advantages: Food glorious food, the beautiful views
Disadvantages: Excursions not handled well, not enough activities on port days

...companies and decided on the QE2 as it was well known, apparently had nice food and was within our price range and also visited places we wanted to go to. We decided upon the Northern Odyssey 7 night cruise (29th July - 5th August 2006), leaving from southampton and stopping at: - Bergen (Norway) - Stavanger (Norway) - Oslo (Norway) - Rotterdam (Holland) There were also 2 sea days in between. Because it was our anniversary within 3 months of ...
...so we decided to pay for the highest cabin in the Mauretania grade and thus we were upgraded to the next cabin up which was the Coronia level. We thought Coronia would be better because it didn't have a set eating time. It was very exciting when we received a pack from Cunard about 12 weeks before our hols that had a description of all the excursions we could go on, they sounded lovely. One thing that was missing from our ticketing information was ...

Short cruise

Advantages: Pure luxury and indulgence
Disadvantages: You need sea legs

Our last cruise on the QE2 was a short cruise to Bilbao (closed for a festival), La Rochelle (closed on Sunday in France) and Guernsey (closed for the bank holiday) - but it still didn't affect our enjoyment of the cruise on what must be one of the best ships in the world. Pure luxury and sheer indulgence are terms which come to mind. We had a Q2 suite - one of the best on the ship, walk in wardrobe, sitting area, one of the few private balconies ...
...best restaurants at sea. The QE2 may be approaching 40 years old but it still 'does the business' for cruising. The entertainment was first rate, staff friendly, the public rooms spacious and well appointed - the only problem was when to sleep! We got the cruise for about £1550 each against a brochure price of approx £3500 so I thought we had a good deal. ...

Review Of Cruise

Advantages: Great For First Time Cruisers
Disadvantages: Not Enough Facilities For Children

For those of you who read the papers, you would have read all about the problems associated with the Island Escape Cruise Ship. As a result of the reported problems I was more than a bit concerned as to whether to go or not as I had never cruised before. All I can say is I am very glad I did go as we had a fantastic time on board. There are two cruises that they run and the one we went on was the Mediterranean Spirit which takes in Palma, Malta, Napoli, Naples & Pisa, Toulon & Menorca. The First thing I would say is that the brochure does states that this is a relaxed and affordable cruise. So you need to bear in mind that this ship is not the QE2 or the Aurora!! If You have cruised before with a line such as Cunard, P&O etc then this is probably not a good cruise for you, or you have to remember that it is a no frills cruise, so ...

Review of Island Cruises

A comparison . . .

Advantages: It's another world
Disadvantages: Waistline suffers!

Cruises are brilliant, there is nothing like it. So far I have now been on the Aurora, the Oriana and the QE2 (yes, I know that's not a P & O ship!). All amazing but quite different in some ways. If you are planning a cruise, book early. They do 30% discount if you book just after the next years' brochure comes out. I'm going again in July and we booked last July - saving around £500 each. Another way to get the cost down is to get 4 people together and book a 4-berth cabin. No good for couples really but great for friends! The cabins look small on the website but they are not too bad actually and yet get quite a bit of wardrobe space for all those ball gowns! If you don't want to fly then you will go from Southampton. This is great as you get a 'champagne (not free alas) and streamers' departure with a brass band and everything ...

Review of P & O

Darling...Its So Manly....

Advantages: So much to see...
Disadvantages: So little time... Expensive

the immense cruise ships dock. While there I saw a couple of P & O liners as well as the QE2. The EAST CIRCULAR QUAY PRECINCT offers a good selection of restaurants, cafes and bars and is an excellent place to watch the ferries come and go. There are also upmarket shops, which I found were good for window-shopping if nothing else! The OPERA QUAY PRECINCT beyond this is on a lower level and is reached by way of short flights of stairs or a small escalator. It is essentially a collection of shops and bars/cafes, which are pretty expensive, but boy is the view impressive! This leads me to what has to be THE most famous and recognisable landmark in Australia and something that I was totally over-awed by; the OPERA HOUSE. Situated on Bennelong Point and finally completed in 1973 it was designed by Danish architect Joern Utzon and over 1 ...
