views. Overlooking the famous Leas Promenade, across Folkestone and the English Channel, you are surrounded by breathtaking scenery. A few minutes away from the Channel Tunnel and the ferry port at Dover, it is an ideal base to stop over to and from France as well as visiting nearby Canterbury, Rye and a wealth of places of interest in Kent, also known as the Garden of England.
Advantages: The area is definately seeing a renaissance Disadvantages: Poor night-life, run down in areas.
...with a history well worth reading up on.
The Leas, I don't know much of the history of the Leas, but Ward Lock’s guide described The Leas as "indisputably the finest marine promenade in the world". It is still remarkably pretty.
The Grand Hotel, When built it was one of the finest hotels in the world, often visited by George IV. It had the first sprung dance floor in Europe, Agatha Christie wrote the majority of Murder on the Orient Express here, Michael Caine also made his stage début here. As with the rest of Folkestone the Grand fell from grace for a long period, but currently once again is a beautiful hotel, well worth a visit for those of you interested in British History.
Folkestone Today.

Advantages: RIGHT IN THE HEART OF THE MUST SEE'S AND DO'S OF FOLKESTONE Disadvantages: PARKING
...as it can get very busy with the lea's cliff hall opposite the hotel when there is a venue or gig playing. However there is parking that goes down along side the hotel which can be used free of charge but like I said, it gets very busy and its almost a race.
What is their to do around the town?
Places to go:
There is much to see and do around Folkestone; it is in the middle of a rich variety of places to visit.
Port Lympne wild Animal Park
This is the brainchild of misanthrope and gambler John Aspinall, The home of the largest breeding colony of black rhino outside Africa, also famous for its Gorillas and the deaths of several wardens during the 70's. There is nothing more unusual than being in or around Lympne and the beautiful Kent countryside, and hearing a pride of Lions...

Advantages: Large bedrooms, clean Disadvantages: Staff
...My boyfriend and I stayed in the BurlingtonHotel for a weekend at the beginning of May 2001. We chose to stay there because they have a special rate at weekends, so it cost us just £100 for a 2 night stay.
The hotel itself is v. nice, although not quite as luxurious as it appears from the outside. The room we had was large and clean. It had all the usual things you'd expect in a standard hotel room, and anything that you needed that wasn't there housekeeping were happy to provide. The best bit about the room was the bathroom, v. clean, v. big, and with speakers connected to the television so you didn't have to miss the end of the tv programme you were watching when you go to get a shower!!
The only down side to the hotel was the staff. The reception staff seemed to have no clue what they were meant to be doing, checking in took...
