Memorable Montreal!

Advantages: Historical city, lots to see and do, decent prices, fascinating history
Disadvantages: See history

...the east coast and Montreal. Montreal is a city I know quite well having been there three times before. I have friends there and so it's an obvious destination for me, perhaps less so for those with no connections there. It was Ms Larsbaby's first trip there, and we headed onwards to some other parts of the province of Quebec surrounding Montreal with my old friend Monsieur Montreal. Here is an account of our adventures. ABOUT MONTREAL Montreal ...
...it's impossible to talk about Montreal without a history lesson to put the city today into context, and this could easily be a review in itself. But it's interesting to follow the eventful, turbulent history and it certainly goes a long way to explaining the mentality there, so bear with me (alternatively, skip past this section). THE HISTORY OF MONTREAL The first permanent mission was founded in 1642 by Paul De Chomedey Maisonneuve, although ...

The best place on earth

Advantages: beautiful scenery, great food, excellent snow
Disadvantages: the temperature!!!

Mont Tremblant is a quaint ski resort near the Laurian Mountains and is the most beautiful place I have ever been. However, the conditions are erratic, winds can be high and snow and fog heavy but the majority of the time the views are lovely, very cold if you stand for too long in one place but outstanding. The lifts run without any faults and the ski and snowboard school instructors are very helpful. In my short time there I went from struggling ...
...skiing or snowboarding I recommend Mont Tremblant as the place to learn purely because the conditions are so good. There is a plentiful supply of resaurants and bars to keep you entertained at nights as well as pretty shops to look in. I found that everyone in Tremblant is very friendly and are always smiling, so you needn't worry if your french isn't quite up to scratch, my dad managed to get by with pidgion french and nobody criticized him. This ...

...de l'Île-Bonaventure-et-du-Rocher-Percé (Bonaventure Island and Percé Rock National Park) in 1985. It is one of the largest and most accessible bird sanctuaries in the world with more than 280,000 birds, 293 different species of birds have been recorded as visiting, migrating to, or living on Bonaventure island. Er, are you terribly fond of snow

Advantages: A unique city - try it!
Disadvantages: Not for everybody - especially not glitzybods!

I don’t know why I started to write this opinion but for the fact that I’ve recently returned to work after the long (and not so hot) summer and feel the need to plan my half-term holiday and a cold(er) break. It does help with the sanity somehow, as you can appreciate (the holiday that is - not the temperature)! After recently talking with one of my Canadian friends, I thought of re-visiting Canada during my October week off. I was ...
...studying at Université Laval in Québec City so it’s a region and country that I’ve come to know pretty well and have always looked upon with more than affection. To recommend it to the average prospective traveller, Québec, both province and city, is a more than a decent place to spend a few days. I know it can be considered a little ‘out of the way’ for some people (and rightly so depending on what your travel boundaries ...

cccccccccold and not just the beer!

Advantages: Good skiing
Disadvantages: Cold

Skiing in Mont Tremblant this year was the best skiing holiday I have ever had. The snow is perfect, particularly in the morning. By afternoon there tends to be some icy patches. The main difference between Mont Tremblant and any other European ski resort is the cold.. And it is very cold. Minus 20 degrees Celsius and there are not many brass monkeys around! So to the village of Mont Tremblant. It is strange really because it is like being in Disneyland. ...
...of lager (Blonde beer). Mont Tremblant is in French speaking Canada although everyone speaks perfect English. As with France though they do appreciate it if you at least try to speak French initially. The village is about 90 minutes drive from Montreal and lies at the foot of the Laurentian Mountains. There are hundreds of miles of piste for skiing and although the village lies on the South side of the mountain there are runs on the North side too ...
