I have recently returned from a 5 night stay in the Queen Anne Hotel, Brussels and am finding it difficult to find fault with the establishment.
I booked this break with three other friends and we shared a family room between us, one double (king size!) and two singles. Now as I had heard from reviews elsewhere on the internet that this hotel was a former hostel I wasn't expecting much but I found I was pleasantly surprised.
A bright, clean and extremely comfortable room awaited us on arrival. It had the usual things you would expect including satellite television, hairdryer and tea/coffee etc. However I wasnt expecting a spacious layout, huge windows and an equally large bathroom. If I were to find the tiniest fault with this room would be the fact that the bathroom lacked an extractor fan and mirror in the main room, which provided some difficulty for 4 gals trying to get ready before a night on the town! But it did not put a dampener on our experience at all!
The location of the property is excellent. For business travellers it is only a mere 200metres or so to the main commercial area of the city, where high rise buildings are abundant. However, the actual street the hotel is on (opposite the national theatre) whilst in the city centre, has a relaxed and quiet feel to it which was very pleasant. For those holidayers and leisure travellers, the hotel is a mere 10minute dander to the main attraction of Brussels, the Grand Place where restaurants, bars and cafes are a plenty.
Getting back to the hotel itself, a huge plus were the staff. Ever willing to help, they were friendly and efficient, not to mention multi lingual which helped us no end as our French was not up to scratch! Nothing was ever a problem and they really did help to make our stay an enjoyable one!
We booked our stay online through a third party website and got an extremely good deal for the room, approx £90 per person for 5 nights bed and breakfast. A bargain in my eyes. However we were quick to notice there were huge price differences being quoted for this place online as well as their rates up in reception. I would advise to definitely search around and compare prices before booking and in our opinion, it definitely seemed wiser to book rather than simply turn up due to the huge variations in price!
The breakfast was included in the price and we werent expecting more than a bowl of Frosties to be honest, again, how wrong were we! Yes there was the usual cereal but a lovely continental breakfast awaited us each morning served anytime between 7am and 10am. For those that like a hot brekkie there was also bacon and eggs each morning too! However if we thought the breakfast area was small, we couldnt believe the miniscule size of the "bar".
I dont know how they could even label the tiny room with 3 small tables a bar. Yes there was a bar but I saw no evidence of alcohol or anything else being served in it for that matter, and it never seemed to be open. This was the one major qualm of the place. It was fine for us but for those travellers who like a few drinks in the hotel bar of an evening rather than venturing out, book somewhere else!
All in all the Queen Anne offers the standard, not the spectacular in hotel accomodation but this is reflected in the price. If I were to return to Brussels again, whether with friends or with a partner, I would definitely return to here - a comfortable, affordable and relaxing hotel.
PS There are luggage storage facilities here, safety deposit boxes and agreeable checkin/out times as well as them accepting all major cards from what we could ascertain. Hope this is of help to you in deciding where to stay!
