So, I'm sat here having been tasked with performing a full hardware audit at our parent company's various sites spread throughout the UK. Oh the exciting life I lead! The Brighton office is one of the larger ones and as such, required an overnight stay in the seaside resort of Brighton.
So, preamble over, I checked into the hotel having spent pretty much a whole day on the train to get down there.
Greeted by an almost entirely eastern European staff, my suspicions were raised. Previous experience has suggested that budget, mediocre hotels are often run poorly by eastern Europeans. I only paid £59 for my bed and breakfast stay at the hotel.
In any case, check in was smooth and I was given my big old fashioned key to my room and told that it was on the third floor down a miriad of corridors.
I was shocked to say the least when I opened the old white gloss door onto a modern, beautifully decorated room. There was a mounted flat screen tv (only 21" wide though) with freeview, a good sized desk and a huge bed. The room was styled in whites and greys with a splash of dark red to give a nice feature and the art on the wall was interesting without being garish. Despite the good sized desk there was dial-up internet access only, which was a major disappointment, and despite being housed next to several pubs and houses, I couldn't find a network to "borrow" their connection.
The ensuite bathroom was a slight cause for concern. A couple of the tiles were cracked and the heat from the shower seemed to have 2 settings... Really really really t*sticle shrinkingly cold, or skin scaldingly hot. The complimentary aromatherapy toiletries were a nice touch however.
One of the key reasons that I booked the hotel was that there was a gym on site and whilst the equipment itself was of a decent standard, the pool was tiny. I could push off from one end, take 2 strokes and be at the other end. I think it would have been better served as a spa room than a pool.
I can't really comment on the dinner provided since I didn't eat it and the dining room was out of action due to a refurbishment. Breakfast was held downstairs in a function room and was your typical hot buffet affair. It was a little disappointing, but understandable because of the refurbishments going on in the main dining room.
Check out was also an easy affair and they had a very good little luggage storage room, so i didn't have to lug my overnight bag about the place during the day.
Overall, I would probably use this again for business, but I doubt I would stay here for pleasure.
Advantages: contempory rooms, clean, great locatrion and see views, great value Disadvantages: bath quite small, breakfast area a little noisy, coffee undrinkable
...a hotel in Brighton, The Queens hotel is right on the sea front a stones throw from Brighton Pier and a short walk from the shops. I think the hotel has been modernised in recent years as it very contempory. The bathrooms and a slate grey and white affair with a bath and shower over bath. The bedrooms are a contemporary mix of pale whites and blues with dark brown and and zebra print. On our first stay at this hotel we had booked a standard double ... ...view room, which looked staight out on to the pier - lovely. The room was large and split level with the bathroom on the main level and then a few steps down to the bedroom ,which made the room feel very spacious. On the second occasion we stayed in the standard double room which was smaller but still nice.
I think this hotel is great value for money. We stayed for £60 a night in the double room which for this high standard of room is great.

Quick review of Queens Hotel, Brighton
It was very expensive for what we got! (385 euros for 2 nights and that was a special price!) The Website is fantastic but does not reveal the reality at all!
Definitely not for a romantic stay! The swimming pool was dirty, the fitness area old and the sauna/hamman in some kind of cellar (frightening!).
I agree that the location is great (the sea-view rooms are however bothered by the road's noise.
The personnel was nice and the room clean (small bathroom though).
I was expecting much better and that's probably why I am a bit upset... I wanted a romantic place for our first wedding anniversary... ...

taking place in the town. For starters there is The QueensHotel, The Kings Hotel and The BrightonHotel. If you are travelling with children make sure you ask for a family room where there should be enough space for them to put extra beds in for you.
If you are simply looking for cheap and cheerful then try one of the guest houses or b&bs. There are absolutely loads of them especially in Kemptown to the East of the Brighton Pier (formally the Palace Pier) in the centre of Brighton seafront. Check out Paskins Hotel, Penny Lanes Hotel and Regency Hotel.
Wherever you stay, the most important thing you must do when checking in (other than paying that is!) is ask for a tourist information map. It will show you where the attractions are that I mention and other ones besides.
