After a little searching I found this hotel on a site at just over £30 a night, coming to £108 in total per person. This was for double, en-suit rooms with breakfast included, a great deal I thought.
Overall, I was pretty much right. The hotel is far from perfect, but then I've thought the same about many hotels I've paid a fair bit more to stop in, including 4 star ones. The rooms were spacious, as expected for doubles, but basic, with a TV (5 channels only, and not a great signal despite being right near the Crystal Palace transmitter), desk, tea and coffee making facilities and a bathroom with bath and shower. They have seen better days, the carpets were a little threadbare in places, but the bed was comfortable. The rooms are central heated with radiators, but in both our rooms the thermostats were broken, mine would not come on, his would not turn off. Unlike many hotels I've stopped in, the cleaners were good at replenishing the supplies, and replacing used towels.
Breakfast was reasonable. Cereal and Tea or Coffee are self service, with cooked breakfasts and toast ordered. Neither of us had cooked breakfast, so can't comment. We got 6 slices of toast each though, and didn't wait long for that. It wasn't that busy, but we didn't have to wait long for the tea to be refilled either.
The staff are all "none native", which is common in London, intact I can't remember a London hotel where I saw a single English member of staff. Obviously this can lead to somewhat of a language barrier, probably made worse by our "up north" accents and way of talking. I found them generally to be good and helpful though, once they could be got to understand what was required.
Since we weren't at the hotel much, I can't comment on facilities, but their was a bar, and that was about it.
Crystal Palace itself seemed a reasonable area, although obviously not one of the most affluent parts of London, but nothing like the inner city "slums" either. It has everything expected of a small town, shops, banks, a railway station, bus station etc. It is on high ground, which gives very nice views. As far as "safety" is concerned, I felt no different walking around their as in my own town or other towns I've stopped in, either during the day or at night, intact the general area around the hotel was much quieter and "safer" than the centre of my town at night. Our rooms were on the inside, so external noise wasn't an issue, but the road past the front seemed pretty quiet. Their was some noise from planes into and out of Heathrow and London City, but they weren't too noisy, and seemed to stop about midnight anyway (and weren't that frequent from about 10), although I live near to an airport so am used to plane noise.
The hotel has car parking facilities, and being some way from the centre of London I imagine it's not too difficult to drive to, plus it is outside of the congestion charging zone. The nearest railway station is Crystal Palace. Trains are half hourly from London Victoria and London Bridge, taking between 25 and 30 mins. I would not recommend the walk from the station to the hotel though, since this involves walking up a quite long and very steep hill. Bus route 249 though runs regularly (about every 10mins) passing the station and the hotel. It is also a fairly short walk to the bus station, with regular buses into the centre (route 3 to Oxford Circus) taking about 40mins, although as we found out, at rush hour this can be a lot longer (over an hour). Buses and trains run late (last train is early in the morning, the 3s run 24 hours).
Really, we only had 2 problems with our stay. The first was arriving just before 2 o clock to find that checking was not until 3, although this was the booking site at fault, not the hotel, and gave chance to explore the area before checking in (after leaving our bags at reception). The second was with the swipe cards used to get into the rooms, which on the second and third night refused to let us in, and we had to get them re-activated by the receptionist.
Overall, if you want a cheap hotel, convenient for central London, but without paying central London prices, this is not a bad bet. You get what you pay for, and you can't get 5 star accommodation at these sort of rates. It's definitely on my list of 2 or 3 hotels in and around London that I would use again.
Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: You get what you pay for......
I recently stayed at the Queens Hotel at the end of November, and to be honest it was absolutely fine. I had booked it at the last minute, just a few hours before check in, and everything went smoothly. Check was easy and without complication. As for the room, it had everything I needed considering I was only staying for a couple of nights by myself, and most of the time I was out anyway. It was clean, which is important, and there was a working ... ...when I turned the shower on, the shower head fell straight off, completely soaking the bathroom and spraying water everywhere. However, this was easily fixed by myself.
Breakfast was fine, just usual kind of toast, cereals....basically what you would expect, and there is always Sainsburys just around the corner. Staff were generally willing to help, although didn't seem particularly welcoming. At night it was slightly noisy, as I had a room right ...

Advantages: Saintsbury's supermarket around the corner. Disadvantages: The structure of hotel, the manager and his staff.
The miserable experience started as soon as I arrived at the reception counter.A very unfriendly manager told me that my name could not be found on any guest list.He could offer me a room at the maximum rate for 1 night only.It took me the better part of a day to get this sorted out and even though it was his mistake,no apology was forthcoming.
We ended up in a room with a seriously sloping floor, wallpaper peeling off in a number of places,a panel ... ...went and discovered the hiding place of baby cockroaches under the kettle.
Tickets to a soccer game were delivered to this establishment, could never be found while we were there but returned to the seller 3 weeks after the game.
The complimentary breakfast consisted of dry white bread and persistently long line-ups waiting on fresh coffee.
Conclusion:this is the absolute last resort. ...

Firstly i would not call this establishment a "hotel" quite frankly you would be better off sleeping on the streets than staying in this building, the staff are the most ignorant and non caring people i have come across in my lifetime. they have no concept of what the words "customer service" actually mean. The hotel itself is what you would describe as a "sick building" and needs to be put out of it's misery, the rooms are disgusting with bare electric ...

Advantages: Cheap! location, clean, open late for check-in Disadvantages: by no means palatial but come on.....
Considering the price of this hotel it is absolutely fantastic. It is located about 100m from Hyde Park and close to Paddington Station and a number of tube stops (central line). It is also easily accessible by car and by foot and there is a public multi-storey near by. The location is good for exploring central London as Oxford Street and SoHo, Kensington, Kightsbridge and Chelsea are not far.
The concierge was open when we arrived at 23.00 and the man at the desk was helpful and polite. The entrance is relatively smart compared with say a Formule 1 or similar.
The room was clean and adequate. I didn't expect much for the price but was pleasantly surprised really. The twin room was private and quiet. There was a wardrobe, a desk, a bedside cabinet and some lamps along with an LCD TV, an electric heater, tea and coffee making ...
Advantages: convenient location, comfortable room Disadvantages: expensive internet access, breakfast a bit hit and miss
considered to be quite a lot dearer....There was also a gymnasium on the lower ground floor which I didn't explore, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
I realise that my review could be a lot better, but really it's intended to show those who are perhaps just spending one night in london for a concert or museum trip that this hotel is definitely well worth staying at if this is all you require. To sum up, it's in a very quiet and safe area, it's in a fabulous location, it's smart and comfortable, and despite a few disappoinments......like Bella Italia...you can't really go wrong!!!!!! ...
it was four stars but more than twenty years ago! The hotel is in very nice location and look really beautiful from outside and in the reception, but one floor up and there is a big difference. Hotel rooms are very small and dark , so we immediately wanted to be upgraded and after 30 minutes of waiting we moved into suite. the suite was bigger, but a lot more expensive and still very old. shower was leaking, minibar was empty, heating did not work properly and there was only very old and small television. breakfast was in buffet style and there was a lot to choose from. the lobby staff were not so friendly. i would not use this hotel again and do not reccomend it to anyone. ...
