Disadvantages: It is a city and New Zealand is so much more beautiful to go rural

General over view: Auckland was my first destination when I arrived in New Zealand, traveling into the city and seeing the Sky Tower for the first time was really cool, I remember thinking I made it! I am really here!! The City is big but easy to get around using the tram system they have in place. It is a very clean and friendly city, if you don't have long I would recommend a couple of days here. The Sky Tower is the main thing to see and do and is a great place to get great views, I also recommend taking a ferry trip to one of the near by islands. A great hint and tip for you is to take the Stray Bus free city tour, this was great to see what Auckland has to offer you, and you can book onto the tour through your hostel. Review of Auckland & Northland (New Zealand)

Quest for the golden book!

Advantages: Incentives to read, stickers, fun worksheets ...
Disadvantages: none

As some regular rating readers will know my son has some issues with reading and has found things a bit harder then some of his classmates. On the last day of school he told me about this library reading contest. It's not really a contest but I can't really think of a better word to describe it. My son thought it sounded interesting and my book about helping children to learn to read said taking children to the library is a great way to encourage them. We went into the library and got him his first library card and the librarian re-explained the Quest Seekers summer reading challenge (there we go better word to describe it!). He got another card to use when getting or returning quest books, a poster for quest stickers, and some colouring pages. Review of Quest Seekers

Brick Lane

Advantages: Good ending
Disadvantages: quite boring and a bit hard going in places

and an English mother. At the age of 3 her family moved to Bolton, England where she lived until she went to college in Oxford. Monica Ali now lives in South London with her husband and 2 children. Brick Lane is Monica Ali's debut novel, when the novel was first published some Bengali Muslims did not like the way they were portrayed in the novel and planned a demonstration where they intended to burn copies of the book, although the demonstration went ahead no copies of the book were actually burned. Brick Lane was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2003. Since the Ali has had her second book, Alentejo Blue published which is a collection of stories set in Portugal.
