Quinta Da Bellavista

Advantages: Cheap, central to both areas
Disadvantages: Not much hot water and no air conditioning

The Quinta Da Bellavista apartments are situated right in the middle of Albufeira, with a good 15 minutes walk to either the old town or The Strip, which is regarded as the new town and where all the night life and action is. The reception, pool area and bar are on the opposite side of the road from the apartments. We checked in (23rd June 08) and had to give a deposit of 50 euros this was to cover any damages and would be refunded at the end of the holiday. This deposit was not mentioned in the holiday brochure so beware of this when you go. The apartment was clean and tidy, with non of the signs of squashed mosquitoes on the walls. you find a bunk bed in the hall way right opposite the toilet, i'm not sure I would have wanted to sleep there. In the toilet there is a bath, with shower, sink and foot bath. There is a mirror ...

The Village

Advantages: Atmosphere. Well produced - Escapist
Disadvantages: Story line too unrealistic for me

Last week I came across one of those special offers in HMV (4 DVds for £20). It was end of the season sale and I picked up a film called "The Village" just to make up the numbers. It struck me as being some sort of clichéd horror film from the blurb on the cover and I didn't expect to be watching it in the very near future. But it was one of those DVDs that keep popping up every time I looked through my shelf of dozens of other unwatched movies. Well the other evening, it popped up again and I just put it in the machine without giving it too much thought. As I wasn't in the mood for thinking anyway, it would probably be an ideal film. As we got into the film, enter the monster, well, a glimpse of it. It was supposed to be scaring me but even my wife, who makes me jump out of my skin with her sudden screams in scary movies, remained ...

Review of The Village (DVD)

Camera Obscura, Tavira, Algarve

Advantages: View is just wonderful up here.
Disadvantages: None as not open when poor weather conditions

Camera Obscura or Tower of Tavira is to be found up the hill near the castle in Tavira. It is situated in an old disused water tower, built in 1931. Accessibility is by lift or the stairs, which encase the lift and then a small walkway to the doors of the Tower. There are the old steps up the side of the Tower but not recommended. The cost of this experience is 3-50 euro. The visit inside the Tower takes about 15 minutes, and at the most there would be 15 people inside, so not too bad for space, though when you go inside the lights are on and the inside of the old water tower is both strange and wonderful. When the lights are switched out, and warning is given you are in total darkness for a few seconds. The Camera Obscura in Tavira is the first of it's kind in the Algarve. It works by mirrors, lenses, pullies, a very large ...
