Advantages: Cheap, clean and safe Disadvantages: Not for the faint-hearted if you don't like the real world
...I did not mean to stay in a Hotel 81 hotel. I was planning to be in transit through Singapore at my own expense for a day or so.I tried three four-star special offers. The first two came back after about 12 hrs to inform me that their hotel was full on the dates in question.
The third hotel was also full but offered me a hotel, Hotel 81 Geyland on Lorong 20, which they recommended for a cost of about £20 per night. Time was a bit tight ,but the photo looked OK on-line and the price was fantastic so I booked it and this is where I stayed, and stayed again on two further visits later in the year.
This hotel is not for seekers of de-luxe accommodation. The rooms are completely basic and quite small. My room had an air-conditioner (which did not cost extra to use), a small bathroom with toilet and shower and a welcome bag...

Advantages: People, food, shopping, the price. Disadvantages: Pushy shop owners.
...on the minibus because it worked out cheaper than the taxi. Due to tiredness I'm not positive of the cost but I think it was around £2.30 each. The minibus desk is right outside arrivals so it's easy to find. The minibuses take you to any hotel on the mainland for £2.30 no matter where your hotel is.

We confirmed our flights way back in July 2003 and they had the nerves to tell us that we did not reconfirm our flights when we have more than one week to go before we fly to Australia. How ridiculous! Isn't reconfirmation supposed to be 3 days before departure, even though the last time I reconfirmed, they happily sent me a printout with my reconfirmed flight details!
After some harsh words, they slightly redeemed themselves a little by booking us on flights to Australia on an earlier day, reducing our stay in Singapore. I suppose that is Singapore's lost economically from reduced spending from me.
Flight Delays
=
There I was, stuck in Schipol International airport in Amsterdam. Our flight had been delayed once again, for 'unforeseen technical problems'. The announcements...

I have stayed in a few Singapore hotels, and generally the standard is extremely good, so I was surprised to be so disappointed with The Miramar. I chose it because I was on a stopover and got a cheap deal. As I have seen the sights of Sing before,... more
