OK so there is another review, I know. Here's mine.
The hotel is very conveniently located about a 10 minute walk from Amsterdam CS (central station), just off the SE corner of Dam Square. Just look up as you enter the square - you cannot miss the Rho sign.
Our room was on the second floor and as a result somewhat noisy at night. (It was locals too, not tourists, making the noise!!) Our friends were on the top floor and had a much nicer and quieter room. Try to get top floor when you check in!
The rooms were clean and light. Of reasonable size (our friends room was actually very large) and really quite comfortable.
The staff were very friendly and of course (this being The Netherlands) English was spoken perfectly.
The hotel is surprisingly large and is always busy especially at breakfast. The breakfast rooms are large and airy and the breakfast is pretty comprehensive. You can easily set yourself up for the day here!
There are some interesting bars and restaurants further down the street the hotel is on. Not cheap, but reasonable value and good quality - worth a try. You can always get good cheap food at one of the many 'rice tables' in the area.
The hotel is also close to the 'Red Light District' and all the attendant delights that entails. (You can sometimes find cheap bars tucked in amongst the 'window shopping' of the RLD. They are perfectly safe too as there is a always a heavy police presence to keep the Stag boys under control!)
Also, head across Dam Square with the Hotel behind you, past Albert Hijn (a classy supermarket, not unlike Waitrose) and you come to one of the main shopping streets with bargains galore!! And they still have C & A in the Netherlands too.
So, in summary, I would recommend this hotel. Having been to Amsterdam many times, it is at least as good as anything else and way better than many at a similar price point.
