going into bars in prague is one of the most delightful experiences of your life. you go in sit down and drink until you can not get back up again. fantastic. it is so cheap, about 18 pence for a beer that you can afford to go silly and simply consume to your hearts content. ordering is not too much of a problem as nearly all of the bar staff speak enough english to order drinks, but if you want to get into the mood try asking for "zway peevo" which means two beers, that should get you started - go on you will love it.
Advantages: Inexpensive, Superb taste. Disadvantages: Difficult to find any
In my opinion, the Czech Republic produces some of the finest beers in the world. A Czech pilsner such as a Budweiser Budvar 12%, a Pilsner Urquell, Radegast,Gambrinus 12% or a Damazlice Purkmistr, takes a lot of beating. All these illustrious beers are widely available in the lovely Baroque city of Prague and at very reasonable prices.
Basically Czech beer is of two main types. These are light(swelte) and dark (ceme).Historically, the lights rooled the roost in Prague but in recent years the dark beers have started to gain in popularity.
There is more good news about the good news,. Beer prices in Prague-if you avoid the obvious tourist pubs near places like the Charles Bridge- are comparatively inexpensive-for a few kroner you can inbibe with some of the greatest beers in the world. You will find many of Prague's taverns not only offer ...
Advantages: Beautiful baroque architecture, inexpensive, fine culture. Disadvantages: presence of touts
The beautiful, baroque, city of a hundred spires,Prague,is a gem. Since the "velvet revolution" that saw the overthrow of the Communist regime, this lovely city has become a major tourist destination, and its not hard to figure out why!
The city provides something for everyone ! There is conventional and experiental theatre, opera, classical and folk music, and good dining out. Then there are the pubs and the marvellous Czech beers such as Budvar,Pilsner Urquell and Radegast, which rank among the finest lagers in the world
For starters a bit of geography. The Vltava river snakes its way through the city.On the left hand side of the river are the little quarter (Mala Strana) and the site of the castle (Hradcany) whilst on the right are the old town (Stare Mesto) ,the new town (Nove Mesto) and the Jewish quarter (Josefov).
Hradcany Castle ...
Advantages: Beautiful city, great prices Disadvantages: Dubious criminal element
I first visited Prague in 1993 when it wasn't quite as popular. As now I never had any problems with communicating with people and the beer was incredibly cheap at aroun5p a pint! I have recently returned from there and have found the place to have changed some. The sights are still there, even the sword swallower in Old Town Square! The beer has gone up to around 50p a pint. There are quite a lot of dubious characters around, mainly run by the russian mafia apparently. Lots of strip joint and casinos. Not too noticable until late at night so most tourists should be OK. I did have my wallet stolen though so watch out.
Food is not fantastic though there are a lot of pizza, indians etc so there should always be something.
Beer is brilliant, try Pilsner Urquell, Budvar or Radegast which I found to be most appealing.
It used to be ...
