I visited the Radisson Edwardian Vanderbilt for 1 night in March 2004 after booking it for a birthday treat for my mom.
The Hotel is located in Kensington, 1 minute away from Gloucester Road tube stop (Circle, Piccadilly & District Lines) so it benefits from a great location and is very easily accessible.
The exterior of the hotel is very impressive & the lobby too, while small, is very pretty. What's more the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and we were even upgraded to a better room when they found out our trip was to celebrate my mother's birthday. They offered to make a reservation for us for dinner in the evening, and even called to remind us to put our clocks forward one hour (we stayed the weekend that the clocks in the UK change from GMT to BST).
However, having stayed in many similar hotels in London previously I can say that this wasn't the best. Our (now superior) twin room was pretty large and we had some really nice complimentary toiletries and plenty of towels. We had one single and one double bed, both of which were pretty firm (I am like the princess and the pea and like a very soft mattress!) but not uncomfortable. But the whole room had a damp, musty, almost mouldy smell to it that was only relieved by opening the window (not a great idea on a cold wet windy March day!)
The speakers in the bathroom didn't work (not essential, admittedly, but we had booked the hotel for a touch of luxury) and the TV wasn't exactly user-friendly. Worst still, room service trays were left in our corridoor for 2 days & the lifts seemed to have a mind of their own and took forever to arrive.
Security at the hotel is high - you need your keycard to get beyond the reception area to the coridoors and even to work the lift, and reception is staffed 24 hours a day.
The hotel has a gym, a bar and a restaurant (called 68-86) which I understand does a set menu (2 courses for £19.50 or 3 for £25.00) but we didn't use these facilities during our stay. We did eat breakfast at the hotel though, as it was included as part of our package. The breakfast is buffet style (ie eat all you can!) and full english is offered along with a selection of cereals, breads and juices, fruit salad (though this didn't taste particularly fresh) and yoghurts. Tea and coffee is provided and the serving staff are highly attentive, filling up your cup every time you take a sip!
This hotel doesn't match up to the Copthorne Tara, for example, but we did benefit from a special internet rate which made the trip value for money (£89 B&B from Lastminute.com).
