Radisson SAS Hotel Berlin. An oasis of calm in a bustling city.

Advantages: Stylish hotel in a superb location. Unique feature of huge aquarium in hotel atrium.
Disadvantages: One bed rather than two pushed together would have been nice!

From the moment we emerged from the revolving door into the lobby of the hotel we knew we were staying somewhere just a little bit different. I stood for a moment, watching people having a coffee in the lounge area, others perched at the bar sipping late afternoon drinks then my eyes drifted to the stunning focal point of the large lobby area - the 25 metre high cylindrical aquarium. An observation lift was gliding almost imperceptably upwards within the core of the structure. Beautifully coloured fish of varying sizes swam seemingly unaware of the people watching them - from both "inside" and outside the aquarium. That was the moment when it dawned on me - just what was the striking characteristic of this hotel - the calm. The hotel seemed to be full of life and yet so peaceful and calming - such a contrast with the bustling city ...

A Hotel in Budapest with a Funky Decor

Advantages: Good location, near to main attractions, excellent retro decor
Disadvantages: Supercilious staff and expensive ale

have ever slept in. Breakfasts were fine and the location was superb with lots of good transport connections. The only down side and there usually is one - was the manner of some members of staff. I found some of the young men to be very patronising and a little supercilious. Apart from that we had a good stay in this central hotel and really loved Budapest as a city. *Also posted on other sites including Dooyoo and Helium* ...

Radisson SAS Portman Hotel

Advantages: Location, Location, Location
Disadvantages: Pricey-ish

This weekend just gone me and the missus thought we'd go off on a short break in London. We chose the SAS Portman Hotel since its location was fab and the price fell within our budget of £300 for 2 nights. We had heard only good things about this one so we booked at Lastminute and paid £240 for a Superior room with breakka. Or breakfast, in English. If we had booked through the hotel's own website it would be nearer £300. Where is it, then? The hotel is located just off Oxford Street, opposite Marble Arch tube station. It has easy access by tube, since Marble Arch, Bond Street and Oxford Circus are within walking distance, and many buses stop nearby. Even night buses! I don't need to tell you how good Oxford Street is for shopping.... but I will. All the major chains are there, plus its home to some of the biggest department stores ...
