This review is of the hotel we stayed at in New York last week for 5 days, The Radisson Lexington.
BOOKING I booked our stay through hotels.co.uk and was paid upfront which sometimes can make it more difficult on arrival, but no problems here. We got the 5 days for a rate of 490 pounds over the easter break which we felt was really good. We had previously held a room on the website and waited for a cheaper rate to appear on the other sites as they are always cheaper.
CENTRAL LOCATION The hotel is exceptionally located on the east side of Manhattan. It is quite a nice affluent neighborhood which is around the corner from the Waldorf Astoria on Park Ave and the Palace.
A short block walk or two brings you to the Rockerfeller Centre home to NBC and radio city music hall. Quite amazing how close it all is. We easily walked to Timesquare most days as well, and it was about a 5 dollar cab ride in light traffic. We had a view of the Chrysler building from our hotel and enjoyed the views of the city.
There was minimal noise heard from our room apart from the usual hussle of the city (the odd police siren etc)
This is a highly ideal spot for sight seeing, there is a subway a block away that takes you to downtown/village/wall street etc, or uptown to the park. Macys/bloomingdales is walking distance uptown and the MoMa is a few blocks north as well.
CHECK IN Standard check in time is 3pm and our bags were held free of charge till then. There were ample staff and we were seen to immediately, our bags were taken from the cab and we were shown the way. I was given a temporary key to use the lavatories in the lobby as well as our room was not ready yet. A credit card was need for hold of incidentals which we were unaware of and caused some problems as we had not informed them we were traveling, but was handled with ease by the hotel and all was dealt with quickly.
We were given a high floor like requested and told the details of the facilities in the building. Very welcoming and pleasant.
ROOM The room we had was standard as said. It was comfortable enough, but you wouldn't want to have too much luggage. The bathroom was quite ample however, easily moved around in there. The bed was well made and all was clean and proper. The bed was very comfortable with a variety of pillows.
There was a desk for use with internet if you bought a laptop with you - also wireless available on the messaine level and lobby. There was a nintendo 64 for hire if you had children for their use too and a large flat screen tv.
The hotel was very environmentally friendly and did not like to waste water and such by washing every day, so they had a clear policy for towels and sheets which both my partner and i appreciated very much,
AMENTITIES
There is complimentary luggage check (Except on check out its 2 dollars an item) safety deposit boxes concierge restaurants bell hop (who is exceptional at getting taxis) A main bar with a sushi specialty restaurant The favorite of mine was a Starbucks in the lobby.
