For our honeymoon, we had enough money for 3 nights in a top hotel, and 7 in a hovel. We chose the Radission SAS as the top hotel, and boy am I glad we did.
First impressions mean a lot, and there are two things you immediately notice when you pull up outside the hotel; firstly, the bell-hop doorman, straight out of all the movies you ever watched. The second thing is the fleet of hotel owned Mercedes' that sit out front and can be hired as taxis any-time you want (although they're 3 times the cost of a standard taxi).
Inside, the multi-lingual reception staff welcome you and sign you in. As a 'posh hotel newbie I felt a little overwhelmed at reception, and wasn't sure what to do with my bags. A bell boy soon put paid to that, and took our bags off, whilst we took the stairs up to our room.
One of the most amazing features of the hotel is the main staircase - a looming marble structure that oozes class.
We hired a £150 a night room - about mid-range, and were delighted to see a bottle of champagne and a chocolate cake on our bed, in respect of it being our honeymoon.
The room wasn't overly lavish, but the bedding was thick and sumptuous. I was expecting a bit more from the room, but (in hindsightful comparison with our second hotel) it was great!
The room had all the neccessities, including a mini-bar that charged £1.50 for every bounty, mars etc. At first we were not impressed by the cost, but I must admit we bought a few of those by the time we left.
After changing, we went for a wander in Prague, and here the hotel could not be better - it's set about one street off the main city centre, and takes just 2 minutes to walk into the heart of town. Our second hotel was 40 minutes walk out, so bear this in mind.
The hotel has its own jazz bar, with live music each night, and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed.
There's an award winning sea-food restaurant too, but a meal for two would have cost us £150, so we declined.
The absolute best part of the hotel was the breakfast. If you stay, you MUST buy a deal where the breakfast is included. The restaurant was the size of a sports hall, and contained a plethora of bread, cereal, fish, meat, fruit, and cooks serving fry ups in every style you could ask for. I'm a big guy, and soon got into the routine of eating american style pancakes with maple syrup and icing sugar every day. On this front, I have recently stayed in a top UK hotel, and there wasn't half as much food on offer. The breakfasts were truly spectacular.
Over all, this is an expensive hotel, and can feel a bit daunting if you're not used to it - the international clientele all dressed in their business suits made my wife a bit embarrassed of us in our Matalan gear, but if you can get over that, this is a stunning hotel.
