Singapore's Grand Old Lady

Advantages: Luxuty,Colonial Atmosphere, great Food, Fine Service
Disadvantages: Expensive

Singapore's most popular boutique hotel is the world famous 104-room Raffles Hotel which today is the preferred option for the well-heeled celebrities and other members of the rich and famous club. It is located in the heart of the business and shopping district at Beach Road. The dear old Raffles was built in 1887 complete with a stunning courtyard, which reputedly has more than 50,000 plants. It was the colonial hotel par excellence and attracted such famous figures as Joseph Conrad and Somerset Maugham. Review of Singapore - Hotel Raffles

Life Of Luxury if only for a Few Hours

Advantages: Life of Luxury
Disadvantages: Expensive

I would love to tell you we stayed at Raffles Hotel during our visit to Singapore but unfortunately that would be a big fat lie. For me to stay in the fantastic hotel would require a lottery win or other such windfall History Raffles dated back to 1887 and was named after the founder of Singapore Sir Stamford Raffles. The hotel was founded by four Armenian brothers called Sarkies. The hotel was originally just a 10 bedroom colonial bungalow but over the years the hotel continued to expand with the addition of extra wings ,a ballroom, veranda billiards room and further buildings and rooms. The hotel houses a tropical garden courtyard, museum as well as a Victorian style theatre. Raffles is world renowned be its luxurious accommodation and fabulous restaurants. Sad to say it was just a name to me until the TV programme Tenko which I ...

Review of Raffles Hotel, Singapore

Uniquely Singapore!

Advantages: Shopping, Cleanliness, Nice People
Disadvantages: HEAT!!!

definitely a very green city. Once we changed into our shorts and t-shirts, we were off to explore!" Raffles Hotel- No trip is complete to Singapore without a look around the famous Raffles Hotel. Raffles Hotel opened in 1887 and is one of the last great 19th century hotels. Many famous people have stayed here and Singaporeans enjoy telling stories of the people who have graced the Raffles rooms. The hotel has been given a "face-lift" and the grandeur of it is impressive! It now houses, not only the hotel which are suite only rooms, but also 70 shops and restaurants. The Singapore Sling drink was made famous at this hotel and one MUST have one whilst there! We decided to partake in this drink on the veranda of the Long Bar located on the 1st story. This is the ONLY place in Singapore where you are allowed to litter!!! Each table has ...
