Rajahstan translates to Kings Country. It has the most beautiful scenery and ancient architecture in the whole of India.

Anyone I know going to India I tell them to go to Rajahstan. The people are the very friendly and keen to talk to any travellers they meet.

The best time of year to go is August - beginning October.

If you are going, take a lonely planet. It has very useful information and maps. Altough ignore the prices for hotels and tourist attractions. They are rarely the same as the book.

Shopping is very good value for money. Fabrics, ornaments and ceramics make very good gifts. Try to take out as little as possible as you will quickly fill any luggae you are carrying with you.

Jodpuhr: Beautiful temples and blue-painted buildings.

Jaisalmer:- Central walled market is the place to be, you can also take organised camel trips into the desert from here.

Udaipur:- The palaces here are incredible. The lake palace is awesome and was the setting to a James Bond film. (most of the backpackers hotels have screenings every night). Also the monsoon palace is well worth the rickshaw ride just for the view. You cannot go inside as it is owned by the poilce for communications!

Mount Abu- The place where all of the rich indian businessmen own a holiday home. The highest point in Rajahstan, and therefore quite cool in the height of summer. A walk around the lake is breathtaking. The view from the summit is a sight I will remember forever.

Delhi:- Get out as quickly as possible. Most flights to this area fly into Delhi. It is a built up smelly dirty city. The sights worth seeing are the Red Fort, the parliamet buildings, India Gate and the Ba'hai temple.

Ba'hai Temple in Delhi:- A must see. Incredibly beautiful. Unbelievable architecture. The temple is built in the shape of a lotus flower.

Taj Mahal:- Just south of Delhi is the Taj Mahal. Definately go and see it. No point going to India if you don't. Go and stay a night near it, so you can see it at dusk and Dawn. Both times are the best, try to get there when it opens, so there are less people around to spoil the view.

Downside of going to tourist sights is that there are two different prices. One for nationals and one for tourists. The nationals price can be a couplke of rupees, the tourist price can be significantly greater.

Anyone considering travelling should go and see this area. It will be a trip that will amaze and astound you and will give you sights and memories that will last forever.
