HOTEL LOCATION/DESCRIPTION The hotel is located immediately next to the Park & Ride for Chester Centre. This meant that we could leave our car in the hotel car park and walk the 50 metres to the park & ride. What an excellent location - it couldn't be more better placed for visitors to the city - no trying to park in the centre and getting lost!
The hotel itself has had a fairly recent renovation and comprises a medium sized car park (I would imagine that it fills up before the hotel does given how busy it was when we arrived) and a stunning front elevation to the hotel. Very modern looking and gives a great first impression. Upon entering the hotel you immediately walk into a large open plan space which comprises a bar; seating area and large reception area. It's a very spacious area and they could have crammed more things into it, but it's to their credit that they didn't.
The hotel facilities comprised a bar; large restaurant and entertaining area; fitness facilities and a pool with spa/steam/sauna.
HOTEL ROOM We had one of their standard doubles and to be fair it was probably slightly smaller than I was expecting - having stayed in a few Travelodges and the like I was expecting something a bit more upmarket. However, having said that, the quality of the furniture and fittings was better than the likes of budget travel hotels and they had got extra facilities as standard, such as a trouser press and a hairdryer. (The women of the world will know that a hairdryer is certainly not a standard item in most hotel rooms!!) We had an ensuite bathroom which was nice enough and had the usual range of free bath products - although not enough for two it has to be said!
FOOD We had the most amazing breakfasts here - the selection of food was wonderful and ranged from cereals through to cooked breakfasts with yoghurt; fruit; meat & cheese and danishes in between. It was definitely worth paying to have the B&B service at this hotel.
We also had evening meals here simply because it was easier, and unless we ate in town we didn't know where the best places to eat were out of town. The food was good and the selection was ok as well. It was pretty much standard gourmet pub fare which is generally what I expected. To be honest, if we wanted a posh dinner we would have booked a posh restaurant somewhere!
LEISURE The hotel has a fitness suite and pool complex incorporated. Access is slightly odd in that we had to leave the hotel building by what looked like a fire escape and walk the 10 metres outside to the fitness suite. The staff were very friendly, they obviously are used to hotel guests using the facilities and although they had permanent (paying!) members they were happy to welcome hotel guests. We didn't use the fitness suite as we were there for a rest, but we did have a spash around in the pool complex. It has to be said that the pool isn't really designed for the seious length swimmer given its curved shape. The spa, sauna and steam room were all in working order when we were there and were an added luxury.
CONCLUSION We would definitely visit again should we go back to Chester. Definitely good value with Tesco Clubcard points and Chester itself is well worth a visit.
Advantages: GREAT HEALTH CLUB , WONDERFUL FOOD AND STAFF! Disadvantages: DRINKS COST A LOT!
RAMADA JARVIS CHESTER!
I've been going to Chester now for the past few years, usually I would go just beginning of December before I jet off to Spain for Christmas, so I can do a bit of Christmas shopping and enjoy the gorgeous traditional Christmas lighting in the city centre, but I decided after a very busy June I needed a break and so I checked in at the Ramada Jarvis Chester on the 16th July for two nights just to get away from everything even if it was only for two nights.
First impression of the hotel.
Well we arrived at the hotel when it was pouring it down with rain so I didn't get a good glance of the building in the car park, but when I stepped it was very nice, lovely modern furniture and the staff were very friendly and helpful too. After going through the details I went to my room.
