, the rather dodgy Victoria Inn which doubles as Portland's only nightclub (avoid if enjoying life), Portline Taxis, The Masonic Hall, The Sub Aqua Centre and The Little Ship Inn. Prior to 1979 this area also had a massive car showroom, numerous shops and plenty of residential property. However on November 13th 1978, and January 13th 1979 Portland was hit with flooding that makes Boscastle look like a trickle of water. The Flooding spread through not only Victoria Square but into Chiswell, several buildings were destroyed, and the heart of Portland was ripped out as 18 businesses closed and never re-opened. From 1979 to the present day Portland's greeting area is a wash with abandoned property. Residential property does however remain there, and is well established.

You will never see anyone from Portland face to face until you arrive at your resort airport.

Advantages: RIGHT IN THE HEART OF THE MUST SEE'S AND DO'S OF FOLKESTONE Disadvantages: PARKING
The Portland Hotel, Skuba Bar & Grill Restaurant.
Owned by a gay couple called Lee & Tin, These guys have made a name for themselves in this establishment and the town. About 7 years ago this building was run down and dirty. They bought at auction with great prospects.
Over the years the popularity of the bar has grown substantially. Started off as 'gay friendly' only gay people went to the bar and a handful of straight people or the hotel guests. Now homosexuality is more accepted, it is mixed and very busy especially in the summer.
Bar and Beer Gardens & Terrace
It has an outdoor drinking area with garden in front which greets all people from different walks of life. Pets are also too welcome in the garden and can grab a bowl whilst their owners grab a pint ...
