We had an early flight out of Luton Airport in October 2007and so browsed the net for an affordable hotel near the airport to stay for one night and park our car for a fortnight. I found www.holidayextras.co uk and booked a night at the Ramada Jarvis hotel in Redbourne through them. For a family room, sleeping 3, for one night and parking in the hotel car park for 2 weeks it cost me £79...very reasonable. The Holidayextras web site told me that the hotel was about 7.5 miles from the airport and that a taxi would cost about £18 each way. All this was fine. We arrived at the hotel and were quickly checked in and asked to leave the details of our car and move it to the other side of the car park. We then went to our room to find we had been allocated a standard double room, when we had booked a triple. On reporting this to reception they said they would bring another bed to our room stright away. There was plenty of room for another bed so I said this was fine. I bathed my young son and got him ready for bed as it was late and we had to leave at 4am the next day. But after half an hour we had no word from reception. I rang down and was told the bed was on its way. There was a knock at the door 20 minutes after this and we were told that they had had trouble finding another bed, but there was a triple room further down the corridor. By this time my son was asleep in the double bed, so we didn't really want to move. The hotel employee said he would move the 3rd bed from the other room to ours. So after about an hour and a half wait a third bed finally arrived. We were exhausted and went straight to bed. Of course, like most modern hotels the rooms were very hot and the windows didn't open far. It was also noisy to have the windows open because of the motorway and the airport. At 4am we had an alarm call, but when we arrived at reception our pre-booked taxi hadn't arrived. The receptionist rang the taxi company who said they were on their way...ten minutes later a car pulled up saying they had been booked for a flight crew, but we convinced them to take us. On our return we simply went to our car and drove off...simple.
The hotel was helpful, but it took it's time. The room was fine, just too hot. Car parking was fine. I cannot comment on food as we left before breakfast was served.
