City. Conveniently located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, this NY hotel caters to an international clientèle of business, leisure, weddings, and group visitors in the Big Apple. Boasting an excellent location just across from the Madison Square Garden and Penn Station, The New Yorker is the closest major hotel to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center - a mirrored-glass convention center home to a variety of events and exhibitions throughout the year, and within short walking distance of Macy's - one of the largest department stores in the world, as well as great entertainment, dining and more. The New Yorker Ramada Inn & Plaza Hotel offers distinct dining choices in New York City. Relax and enjoy the traditional cuisine of northern Italy at La Vigna Ristorante & Bar located on the first floor. If you are on the go and need something quick for you or the family, the 24-hour Tick Tock Diner and the lobby-level Cafe New Yorker are great options. Hotel features also include the Grand Ballroom offering plenty of meeting and event space, a complimentary fitness center, free wireless Internet access in the lobby, and business center.
Advantages: Excellent location and well priced for Manhattan Island Disadvantages: Noisy renovations currently and a bit tired in places, but clean
The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the Manhattan Mall. There was another subway station one block along 34th Steet which connected to lots of other subway lines.
The hotel itself is a bit rundown. It is nothing major in my opinion and you can ... ...example there are some extremely impressive chandeliers in the lobby area. It is all in an Art Deco style which I love but is of course subjective!
There are renovations underway at this hotel to "restore it to its former glory". The drawings of "how it will look" appear very impressive. No doubt the increase in prices when it's complete will be equally impressive though!
Our room was very small, but with just two of us this wasn't a problem. The ...

Advantages: Location, Price, Staff Disadvantages: Slightly small rooms
We stayed at the New Yorker April 2006. We found the rooms weren\'t huge but enough space for two and extremely good on price.
The staff were all really friendly but not in that overly patronising way that can sometimes happen in the USA.
For us, the added bonus' were the Italian on the bottom left of the hotel and more so, the Tick Tock diner on the right of the hotel. The great thing about the diner was that it was open 24hours, ideal for those ... ...on the wrong subway and got lost in Queens! But that's a whole other story.
The diner had a 'Hurley' lookalike - Lost star. I'm not sure if he knew it, but he was the friendliest chap I have ever met as well. Anyway, we got back to New York next year for our wedding, unfortunately we can't get back into the New Yorker as they are having renovations done. Do try and go at some point though. Its ideally placed for most of the sights and scenery. If ...

Advantages: Great location, clean and tidy. Disadvantages: A little dated, but being refurbished.
My wife and I stayed at the New Yorker Hotel between 20th - 25th May 2008. The staff were always very helpful and curtious. The room decor was a little dated, but clean and tidy. The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment, but the work was not noticeable to the guests. The "tick-tock" diner is located in the front entrance of the hotel, which was very good for breakfast, with a great service! The hotel location is great, with the subway just outside ...

New Yorker, New York Review ofRamada Plaza & Inn - New Yorker Hotel, New York Cityby

Advantages: Well placed for Empire State and Madison SG, pleasant hotel Disadvantages: looking a little tired in places
I stayed here in January 2006 for 4 nights. We were a party of 2 adults and 2 children staying in a double room. The beds are slightly less than double so we had 1 child and 1 adult per bed, which obviously only works with young children.
The New Yorker has had a very colourful past, with the some of the very biggest names having stayed there. Ali, stayed there in the early 70's after losing at Madison Square Garden. It has to be said though that ... ...the 70's/80's it is now looking reasonably good.
The decor in the rooms and landings is looking very tired and the bathrooms are quite small, however the rooms are clean and warm with plenty of hot water and good pressure on the shower. Plenty of towels are supplied and we have no complaints. Yes I would stay again.
There is a traditional New York diner downstairs - The Tick Tock Diner which is good but I believe it is relatively expensive. We ...

If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink,... more
Postmodernism, eh? It's a funny old bag of fish. Even the holier-than-thou critics don't quite seem to know what it's all about. They argue whether it's
a) a revolt against modernism,
b) a progression of modernism,
c) both of these and more
or d) more
