Rimini is not my idea of a perfect destination in Italy, but it's close to San Marino, which isn't a perfect destination in Italy either when you come to think of it. Anyway, Rimini worked out fine for us last year as we wanted to visit San Marino and the choice of hotels was so much better.
That's why we went there - now for where we went there.

We opted for the Ramada Villa Rosa, mainly for the location it has to be said, but also because it looked a half decent hotel at a half decent price (80 euros).

The location couldn't be any better. It's 5 minutes from the historic town centre, sits right on the main drag just across the road from the beach and surrounded by bars and restaurants. We weren't really there for the beach, the historic town centre wasn't up to much but the bars and restaurants held a little more appeal.

Parking in Rimini isn't too bad, all things considered. There's masses of parking at the beachfront but I expect it can be a bit more crowded at busier times. It's not free though, it's not even cheap so I took advantage of the hotel's secure car park and hid my little Fiat away for the duration of our stay.

The entrance is a little strange - you have to fight your way through the terrace which doubles up as a restaurant to make your way to the reception. It's not much fun lugging luggage past grazing guests and busy waiters.
The hotel prides itself on being modern which it certainly was...around 1965. It looks a little dated now.
Check-in was quick and easy (as it should be) and we were soon whisked up to our room in the elevator from hell. Slow? Going up, we nearly met ourselves on the way down.

The room. Well, it was ok but certainly nothing special. It was equipped with all the usual amenities like a mini bar, hair drier etc and the air conditioning worked a treat, but it wasn't the biggest room in the world and it could've done with a lick of paint...scrub that, a lick of paint wouldn't have made much difference, what was needed was 5 litres of B&Q magnolia at the very least. You kinda expect a seaside hotel to look a bit more tarnished but this was in June at the beginning of the summer season. I dread to think what it would be like in October.
We had twin beds which were fairly new, firm and comfortable and the rest of the furnishings, while not brand spanking, were in a good state of repair. The best thing about the room though, was the balcony. Not a huge one, but large enough for a table and 2 chairs with a view down the street and across the way to the sea beyond.

The bathroom was a little on the small side, but clean enough and the water in the shower was always hot...unless you turned the cold on obviously. Towels were fine, as were the toiletries but again, nothing special.

As for the restaurant and bar, we didn't use them at all although I have to say that the meals being served up as we struggled through the terrace certainly looked vary appetising, if expensive. No, with literally hundreds of bars and restaurants within 5 minutes walk, why would we stay in the hotel?

In conclusion, this hotel is adequate but the best thing about it by far is the location in Rimini. For someone looking for a beach holiday here, it would be hard to beat but if you're looking for a bit of Italian culture, then I'd look elsewhere.
I wasn't impressed much by Rimini itself but now that I've been there, I don't need to go back and that's what I'lll not.

I remember San Marino as one big souvenir shop.
