...at the top of the ramblas and the port at the bottom. After reading lots of mixed reviews I was worried about what I might find. Yes it is true that it is next door but one to a 'brothel' but we did not see anything untoward during our 3 day stay. ...in the tourists, along with the Wax museum, world famous Opera house "El Liceu" (Yep, I'd never heard of it before either! Should I amend that to "allegedly world famous"? … Sod it, fine as it is), and a number of interesting buildings. Please do keep an eye out for pickpockets though, as this is one of their favourite haunts amongst the number of tourists and the hive of activity.
At the western side of La Rambla are many of Barcelona's department stores, which are excellent for shopping. The other really good shopping area is located in between the Barcelona Hilton and Princess Sofia Hotels on the Avenue Diagonal.

Advantages: Value, Walking distance to city centre, nice clean rooms, friendly staff Disadvantages: No food and drink in rooms
...The Hotel Nunez is a pleasant hotel located within walking distance of Las Ramblas and the main centre of Barcelona's legendary nightlife. The Hotel is also located approximately 2 minutes from the nearest underground station which allows easy access to some of the further a field sites such as the Camp Nou and the Gaudi Cathedral. This also makes it possible to use the train to and from the airport for added convenience.
The Hotel itself was clean and the staff were pleasant. It was also possible to access the internet from the hotel lobby at no extra charge. The Hotel provides good value for money at around €30 per night for a twin room, and the rooms are a reasonable size and pleasantly decorated.
Overall the Hotel is ideal for groups planning a weekend trip to Barcelona looking to find good accomodation, close to the city...

Advantages: Close to centre, clean room, great staff, near great shops, cheap and clean! Disadvantages: no view, alley way smells, people pee in alley way, noisy.
...pm had a couple of prostitutes (one lady who sat there everynight on the window-ledge of the little cafe). She was far too old to be doing what she was doing so we said 'Ola!' to her everyday! She was friendly, but not always 'together' some of the time!
There are plenty of shops near the hotel that sell all you need (cheap litre bottles of vodka for 6 euro's!) The cafe (previously mentioned) is great for morning coffee and the staff are great!
Overall we loved Barcelona so much that I want to go over there and live and work. You will love it. Watch out for bag pinchers (saw 1 near the hotel and nearly 1 on the Ramblas). If there is anything you want to know about the hotel or Barcelona feel free to ask!...
