Great day out

Advantages: Lots to see and do
Disadvantages: none

Ras Mohammed national park

When we went to Sharm el Sheik with Little Miss, one of the things she was really keen to do was to see the fish in the Red Sea and also to see the animals.

As you do before you go anywhere (as i do), we had a look on the internet to find out about the place and to see if there was anything nearby which may be of interest to a youngster who has a real interest in wildlife. I came up with this ...
...a "must do".

This is the first and only Egyptian National Park and was declared one in 1983; in that time, it has become an area of importance and has grown considerably.

The park is located at the Southern tip of the Sinai peninsula and the park is actually a peninsula bordered by the shallow waters of the Gulf of Suez to the west and the deep waters of the Gulf of Aqaba to the east. Sharm el sheik is about ... more

Snorkelling at Ras Mohammed

Advantages: Amazing sea life, beautiful corals
Disadvantages: felt slightly seasick whilst travelling to it via boat

...the holiday was snorkelling at ras mohammed. There was about 20 of us all getting ready for snorkelling on the boat whilst the staff prepared the buffet on board for half way through. The first place we stopped at to snorkel didn't take long to get too, the crystal blue corals were lovely, although i have to admit i chickened out on the first bit of snorkelling as people were jumping off the boat with their flippers and masks on as the boat was still ...
...too far to swim, this is where my partner see some purple jellyfish float past us and i had a few colourful fishes swimming right next to me! The experience of snorkelling at ras mohammed was truly amazing and I would definetly go back to do it again and again!!! ...

Ras Mohamed

Advantages: Beautiful scenery and marine life, great visability
Disadvantages: None

When on holiday recently in Sharm el Sheikh, myself and my boyfriend completed our Open Water Diving course. After completing the course, we decided we would like to have a couple of dives where we could just chill and take in our surroundings rather than worrying about what we were meant to be learning. The Dive School we learnt with offered trips to Ras Mohamed so we booked ourselves up for the trip. What Is Ras Mohamed? Ras Mohamed is the only Egyptian National Park and was given this status in 1983. The Ras Mohamed National Park actually includes areas of land as well as water, meaning it is highly popular with divers. Today the Ras Mohamed National Park covers 480km². The Ras Mohamed National Park is great for all animal lovers as there are many species to be seen both on land and underwater. Where Is Ras Mohamed? Ras ...

Review of Red Sea (Dive Sites)

Sharm el Sheikh - first time impressions

Advantages: good value for money, the best for diving and snorkelling, friendly people
Disadvantages: "Come sign my guestbook"

departure we received our travel tickets and vouchers for the hotel via 1st class mail. ********** THE FLIGHT ********** The flight from Gatwick with Astraeus Airlines (a British carrier) took ca. 5 hours, the food was not outstanding, but good. Service was friendly and helpful. ********** VISA ********** EU/UK citizens do not need a visa to travel to Sharm el Sheikh. HOWEVER, if you plan to move outside (e.g. Ras Mohammed National Park) a visa is required. You can purchase the visa (£ 10) on arrival at the airport, fairly easy procedure. My partner (Brazilian) had to obtain a tourist visa (£ 15, for single entry) with the Egyptian Consulate in London before travel. Check visa requirements with the Egyptian Consulate before travelling if you are not a UK citizen. ********** ARRIVAL & ACCOMMODATION ********** We ...

Review of Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt)

The Sharm experience

Advantages: clean, friendly, some of the best diving/snorkling sites in the world
Disadvantages: Not many! Maybe a bit too touristy as it is purpose built for tourists. Tipping.

on a tight budget. However, it is so cheap to eat in Sharm we had a 3 course dinner with drinks and it only cost about £10 a head! Very cheap!! The best bit about the whole trip was the snorkling, we dont dive, as I have tried it but couldnt get on with it. You really dont need to be able to dive to enjoy the marine life. Right on the beach are corals with exotic fish etc. But the best places to see it is Ras Mohammed National park (get a visa at the egyptian airport when you land - £15 each) or go out for the day on a snorkling boat - great lunch and several amazing snorkling spots. Bliss! The only bad thing I can really think of about Sharm is having to remember to tip for everything, it did make me feel a bit on edge as I had to remember to carry change with me all the time and not to overtip (whihc is easy to do) but not to undertip ...
