One of the most interesting places to visit in Madrid is “El Convento de la Encarnación”. It is located in the town center, exactly in "La Plaza de la Encarnación, 1", near of the METRO of Opera. We can reach it with lines 5 and 2 and with several buses, the 3, 25, 39 and 148.

Mondays is closed and the rest of the week is opened from : 10.30-12.45/16,00 17,45 Fridays: 10.30-12.45, and Sundays and holidays: 11.00 13,45.

The prices are: 3.46 euros per person, and 2.70 (groups) and every Wednesdays is free for the European people.

I will begin my opinion with a bit of history:

It was built around the 1600century by initiative of Dńa. Margarita of Austria (woman of Felipe the Third) but she did not get to see its inauguration because she died years before. In the begging it was a part of the Real Alcazar but centuries ago it suffered different transformations until arriving at our days.

In the 70th the Spanish National Patrimony creates the Museum. The “Agustinas” the Nuns that live their, are involved in the conservation of the cemetery where diferents Spanish Queens are buried.

Everybody in Spain has heard that this monastery conserves (a religious tresor) the relic that contains the blood of Saint Pantaleón, that liquefies each 27th of July. The tradition says that if a year the blood not liquefies it will mean that catastrophes are approached...

The church has the original facade but the interior was remodeladed and the choir is for exclusive use of the nuns and can not be visit.

The museum has great treasures, specially paintings and sculptures of the XVII and XVIII Centuries, I recommend the painting collection of the Austrias Kings in the Hall of the Kings: Ana of Austria, Felipe II, Felipe III, Isabel Clara Eugenia... and others.

This “convento” and the “Convento de las Descalzas” very close one of the other are two places that you can not forget if you are coming to Madrid.

(Sorry for my horrible English).
