This resort has undergone a multi-million dollar enlargement to four times its original size. The damage to the environment and surrounding marine life is unmeasurable and surely will never be repaired in the short lifespan of the Maldives islands.
The resort now boasts 130 villas spread across four hectares of land. There is an unprecendented level of privacy yet it still retains a mass-scale resort feel due to the number of staff running around the island - approximately 650.
This is a huge celebrity hangout and big players often seek refuge here. Russian businessmen are a familiar site along with their harems of young models strolling around in diamante-studded G-strings.
The island boasts over 9000 bottles of wine, and the fish for its Japanese restaurant is flown in from Japan. Rather odd given the location of this island!
Service is of course of the highest standard, but for 800 dollars a night, you'd expect at least that. An extra couple of hundred dollars secures a swift 45-minute luxury yacht ride to/from the airport island.
The lap pool is stunning and a great place to be seen - somewhat reminiscent of South Beach, Miami though.
Overall, this is a stunning resort in a beautiful destination, but there's absolutely no sense of place as everything feels so manicured, artificial and commercialised. If you want to do as much carbon damage to the environment as humanly possible, spend two weeks in the Maldives, where even the chicken is flown in from Mexico.
