INTRODUCTION - I've been a fan of live rock music for some years now but living in Leeds have nearly always been forced to travel to Manchester to see bigger name bands simply because of the lack of a venue big enough to attract them.
Now Leeds has some brilliant venues, like the Cockpit, Joseph's Well and the Met but none of these reach a capacity of over 1000 which is essential for larger bands really.
Then all of a sudden, there was a new player on the scene. Part of the Leeds University campus, The Refectory offered capacity of over 1000 with big names to match. Had my prayers been answered?!
BANDS - So far I have seen the brilliant Feeder, the sublime Placebo, Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger and Less Than Jake at the Refectory. Were it not for these superb bands having played there it would probably get 1 star.

Advantages: Quiet location, lovely hotel, brilliant food, private beach. Disadvantages: Quite expensive and could be a bit quiet.
parents and younger brother were going as well! With the remainder of my student loan already exhausted by a weekend break with my University friends it seemed like the best proposal I was going to get this summer.
My parents chose the sunny island of Majorca for our destination and the hotel Riu Palace Bonanza Playa. The island of Majorca is the largest of the three Balearic Islands and is located in the Mediterranean Sea off the south east coast of mainland Spain. The primary language spoken in Majorca is Spanish although many of the inhabitants speak English and German also to accommodate the large tourist influxes from both of these countries. The capital of the island is the cosmopolitan and fairly large city of Palma which also houses the islands airport, flight times are roughly 2-3 hours from the UK. The currency used ...
Advantages: Short flight, English widely spoken, beautiful beaches, great nightlife, I could go on forever Disadvantages: You have to come home
I have been to Majorca twice in the last three years. On the first occasion, I went with my husband and our two children who were 4 and 2 at the time. We chose Majorca because of the relatively short flight time of two hours. We stayed in Alcudia at the Marte Hotel which is in an all inclusive complex which also includes the hotels Jupiter and Saturno. We went in the second and third weeks of May. The first week was very unsettled, rainy and windy, but the second week was beautiful and the temperature got warmer by the day. The resort of Alcudia is very busy but geared more for families rather than singles. The beach is sandy and very clean.
We hired a car locally for a week and I think this was probably one of the best decisions we made. Car hire is very cheap. We paid about the same amount for a whole week's car hire as ...

No chef is more celebrated in Palma than Jaime Oliver -- no relation to The Naked Chef. His splendid kitchen, located on the ground floor of the previously recommended Convent de la Missió, offers the island's most creative cuisine. To enjoy it, reserve well in advance, especially if you want a table on the open-air terrace. The best of seasonal produce -- backed up by a varied wine list -- awaits diners, who can also sit in the main room decorated with black-and-white photographs of Majorcan salt mounds. After a plate of perfectly delicious foie gras with caramelized apples, you have to taste the equally delectable wild sea bass with tomato foam. You are also likely to devour the tiny octopus with white beans over Moroccan couscous. The menu changes frequently. The daily changing desserts are among the most sumptuous on the island.
