The reformed church of Farkas street ,as the old people of Cluj call it ,attires your attention first through it`s old and special aspect but also through the St. George statue in front of it. I still remember this was the first building that impressed me when I started my studies to Cluj-Napoca. This little church is also built in Gothic style like other few old churches here and had a tumultuous history as many other buildings in Transylvania. Being a region of language and religion interferences , buildings suffered as people because of wars and religious dissensions . - A little history- Originally established by Franciscans it was built as a monastery between 1486 and 1516 under the rule of Mathias King. During the protestantism, in 1556 the congregation had to leave the town and the church had remained empty for 25 years. Later it was assigned to Jesuits but they were banned out of Transylvania after a few years. The ruler Bathory Zsigmond called them back , so the church belonged again to them since 1595. In 1603 Jesuits had to leave again and the church was almost destroyed by people converted to protestantism. Finally the building was assigned to the reformed church and began its restoration.
Nowadays in the church there are many concerts.
According to the plans a new church restoration has started in 2008.
