I was lucky enough recently to get a break off work and my three kids, and enjoyed a short break in dublin. i stayed at the regencyairport hotel, and thought i would share my thoughts on it with you.
How to get there -
this was almost too easy! now, i live in northern ireland anyway, so i was able to take my car down. just 1 hr on the motorway, and i was there. right on the main road into the town, it was very easy to spot, with the name written in large red letters on the front. situated 6km from the airport, and 3km from the city centre, it was ideal for me, as i didn't want to be right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the centre.
First impressions -
The hotel
is large, and clean looking from the outside. On entering the hotel itself, we were struck by the cosiness, mingled together with a touch of class. This was excellent considering the price of the rooms, which was more than reasonable, but more of that later. We went to the reception desk, and found it was manned by friendly and helpful staff, who made check-in simple and it took two minutes. We were offered help with our bags, but we declined so we could explore the hotel. When we got to the room, we saw it was large, well decorated, clean and with all the features you would expect. The ensuite bedroom was decorated with marble floors, leading to the bedroom, which was carpeted in burgundy, as was the curtains. The kigsize bed was both comfortable and well dressed.
Room features included -
- ironing board and iron - hairdryer - sky tv - heated towel rail - shower and bath - air conditioning - tea and coffee making facilities
We wanted to go down into the centre of dublin, and found that our welcome pack had all the contact numbers we needed, and also the bus route numbers that would take us. We got the bus at the front of the hotel. It cost 1.40 euro single, and at that was reasonably priced and only took 10 mins. Buses were regular and you could get one either direction every 15 mins or so. When we got back to the hotel, we went back to the room, got changed and went to the bar. It was warm, friendly and great craic! You also will get a great pint of guinness here, as i found to my cost! Live music every night, going from singers, to live irish folk music, you are not at a loss for something to do, and there was a really nice atmosphere.
We were told when we went that there were currently rennovations going on, and that we may here noise from this from 8 in the morning, however we never heard anything. We had a great nights sleep, and never moved till morning. We were told that we could use the facilities in the leisure centre and swimming pool. Now this wasn't for me, but i looked around the facilities and found them to be top notch. They included
- 16 Metre swimming pool - Children's Pool - Sauna - Jacuzzi - Feature Pool - Steam Room - Relaxation Areas - Core Training Studio - Fully Equipped Gym - Changing areas finished to a high standard
If you are into that sort of holiday, you have everything you need here. I however wanted to indulge myself in other ways, and found the night life to be excellent. The hotel was a welcome change of scenery from the busy centre though, and was an excellent place to relax and unwind. Well decorated and finished well, it was excellent value for money.
now, we paid room only, and as such we didn't eat at the hotel, but with 3 course lunches starting at 25 euro per head, it seemed reasonable enough.
Checking out was as easy and friendly as checking in. We paid only 170 euro for two nights, which translates to 85 euro per room per night. at todays exchange rate this translates to about £114.56!!! two nights in a three star hotel, for £57.28 per night. Excellent value!!
In conclusion
Hotel fetures
- 253 ensuite rooms - 50 executive suites - function rooms - leisure centre facilities - bar - two restaurants - 24hr access to reception desk and room service.
In my view, this hotel is well worth a try, with good facilities, and great comfort. Excellent value for money, it has all you could want from a three star hotel. The rennovations are such that certain parts are not fully decorated, but this will be remedied soon, and does not take away from your enjoyment. Great atmosphere and excellent, friendly staff make for a great trip, and you will not go far wrong with this place. The distance from the town may prove a problem for some, but to us it was a welcome relief. Transport is good, and easy to use, and your stay will be a happy one. G
