I had to organise an event at Regents Park recently which meant many, many planning visits!! I must now be qualified as a Park guide!
The standards throughout the park are excellent, from the lawns and wonderful floral displays to the many cafes, all well maintained by friendly, helpful staff.
Its a great day our for all the family with lots to occupy you. Feeding the ducks and the very cheeky tame squirrels provides hours of entertainment, there are numerous places to eat, boating lakes, music in the bandstand, the open air theatre, children's playgrounds, the heron island and of course the beautiful flowers - there are often special events advertised throughout the park or details from the main park office in the Inner Circle.
We were lucky enough to be in the Queen Marys Rose gardens which as it sounds has the most gorgeous display of roses you could imagine with hundreds if not thousands of fragrant roses (yes they actually do have a fragrance which seems to have been lost in the mass grown roses today). The Queen Marys Rose gardens are a must for a visit, in the centre there is a lake with a small island which you can get to by way of a quaint wooden bridge, the island is tiny and houses other little surprises such as a waterfall, a perfect place for photographs. Whilst I was there I was lucky enough to see 2 black swans with 2 new babies (ahhh). The park is a peaceful haven away from the bustle of London, infact its hard to remember that you're in the centre of London. Regents Park is something we can be very proud of.
Other information: Location - about 2 minutes walk from Baker Street Tube. Other places of interest: London zoo based on the edge of the park, Madam Tussauds waxwork museum, very close to Baker Street tube, Sherlock Holmes museum, Elvisly yours (Elvis shop), Beatles store - all in Baker street on the way to Regents Park.
