If you haven't been to London before, then go to Regent Street. Less chain-store oriented than Oxford Street, its best feature is easily Hamleys, with over 5 floors of toys and games. There is a great ice-cream shop close to the Piccadilly Circus end, as well as Cheers bar, themed on the American TV show, and lots of specialist shops like the Apple store, and Liberty's is just round the corner. However, if you've been to London before, then avoid this street, as it is always packed with people, and Saturdays are a complete nightmare. There are many better places to see, and I much prefer the streets leading off it, like Carnaby, which have more interesting shops, and are a lot less manic.

Interesting review, you make some useful points regarding the traffic and amount of people that visit.
