Advantages: see review Disadvantages: distance, language
I was afraid of my stay for one-day stopover without prebooking any hotel in Taiwan to Hanoi. I had been arrived early in the morning at 7.30 a.m. and the flight to Hanoi was departing the next day at 7 a.m. The airport, which should close at night, is 50 km from Taipei city and I was told that people shouldn?t speak hardly English and all is written in Chinese characters.
Taipei was waiting with nice weather. I passed a gate, which checked my temperature by a calorimeter camera, a caveat against SARS. At the customs clearance I got a Visa for 1 month for free and near the exit was tourist information. There I was offered a free half-day sight seeing tour and I was supplied with a town map leaflet and information about the airport
bus back and the possibility to stay overnight at terminal two. My mood lightened.

This hotel is somewhat now luxurious! It has had a sensational make-over since it joined the Holiday Inn group last year. The room was finely appointed, supremely comfortable, and had a fully-stocked set of amenities, including some L'Occitane de Provence which you don't often see within the chain.
I've stayed at many hotels and the rooms here are the largest I've seen within the group, and the service was much more refined than what one sees even in the Grand Hyatt or Far Eastern hotels.
Every individual detail had been noted and assured satisfaction.
My luggage was 'misplaced' during my flight for Taipei and seeing that I had a such a hectic flight, the desk manager took me to the well kept hotel restaurant where I ordered a lovely meal, that I thoroughly ...
Advantages: Erm, it's a major airport Disadvantages: Read below
Well, firstly, this is in the wrong catergory. Thre are two airports serving Taipei, the one mentioned above, and the major one named TPE. Make sure you know which one you'll be flying into. TAY is in the middle of the city and has small jets serving Taiwan and other close locations. TPE has the big jets serving the rest of the world.
Right, having got that out of the way, some facts. Firstly, before anyone complains, this willo be a short opinion. This is due mainly to the lack of facilities at the airport.
Arrival: I arrived at TPE from Singapore on Singapore Airlines. I'd paid £1000 for a business class flight from singapore. The economy fare was pretty much the same. If you are planning to fly to TPE, make sure it's a consolidated fare. If you buy any tickets outside of the originating country in SEA (south east asia) you will ...
