'Reggae Bus'

Barbados is about 30 miles long and 16miles across, not very big at all, and with a total population just less than 300,000, most of whom are in close proximity to Bridgetown, the capital. Our hotel was located on a beautiful South Coast beach at Silver Sands some 10miles or so, and a good ... Read review

Barbados Reggae Bus

Advantages: great fun
Disadvantages: avoid 3pm to 5pm

...
These are the 'reggae (mini) buses'! Otherwise known as ZR's (license plate letters!) the buses are WHITE some with a maroon stripe down the side. It transpired we were on Route 11. There were loads of them about … the service was more frequent, more regular, and ran later at night.

Any trip on a reggae bus is nothing if not memorable. Our driver was an extremely relaxed fellow, smoking a thin cigarette throughout, sporting ...
...fellow passengers, all locals, generated a great atmosphere as we went along ,chatting away, hopping on and off the bus. Quite a contrast to the sullen faces that so often populate our own buses nowadays. Everyone seemed to know someone else…loud friendly greetings and good humour everywhere.

The driver used his distinctive musical horn frequently to attract prospective customers as he approached stops, official and unofficial. Our ... more

Riu Tropical Bay

Advantages: Gorgeous, good cocktails, lovely people
Disadvantages: Wee beasties, on sit e shops can be quite expensive!

We got married there! We were there for three weeks and we went with thompson. For the two of us, all inclusive, including wedding, flights transfers etc, it came to about £4,500. Pretty cheap compared to a wedding at home and fantastic weather. We were transported to the hotel in a rickety old bus blasting out reggae music, it was a great start to our holiday! I don't think they use the highway code out there though!! Buses overtaking buses on nlind corners and all that!! The scenery on the way was oput of this world. at one point we could see the sea and the sunset was amazing! We got to the hotel and again was shocked at the size of it. It was baking hot and very humid, but there were fans everywhere it was almost like walking into a dream! The rooms had optic in them, they contained at least one very potent ...

Oslo on a budget - haha

Advantages: Plenty to see
Disadvantages: Expensive!

to the local Kiwi supermarket where all the staff dress in a tasteless green uniform, and bought danish pastries which are probably the best buy in Norway. We found a park between a church and a river, and fell asleep in the sun for a while. Later we managed to get a lift back to the bus terminal from a Somalian football player just by asking for directions, and he played some good reggae for the short trip. We had planned to go further to Bergen, but all the the bus and train fares seemed so expensive and we were on such a tight budget. We thought that hitching might take too long, as we only had a limited number of days too, so decided at least for today to find somewhere close to camp. We took a 22kr train and bus ride to Sognsvann, which is one of Oslo's own forest and lake area, popular with joggers especially. Having misread ...
