These seventeenth and nineteenth century buidings house the Rembrandt Residence Hotel, a glorious retreat from the bustling city of Amsterdam. This hotel modestly claims two stars and while the rooms are basic, they are clean and comfortably furnished and in my opinion this hotel could easily be three star property.
The location is excellent, idealy situated between the Herengracht and the Singel canals, near Dam square and approximately ten minutes from the Central Train station.
Rooms boast dizzyingly high ceilings and large ceiling to almost floor windows adorned with heavy curtains that make the room incredibly cosy for those who need to block out the light! The windows open and are kept in place with a wooden batton, I initially found this difficult as the windows are heavy!
Ask for a room on the canal if you want to watch people going past or see the lights and moon shining on the water though I presume this could be noiser in the busy season.
The buffet style breakfast fills you up though don't expect a full cooked breakfast. Eggs are available as are a selection of cold meats and cheeses. There is a platter of fruit, breads, cereals and fruits and yogurt. Tea, Coffee and juice is also available freely. Not all the hotels in Amsterdam offer breakfast so it can be a helpful bonus.
All in all this hotel is clean, centrally located and well worth a visit by my recommendation.
