This 5 star Renaissance hotel was outstanding value for money!
Location
The renaissance hotel is located in the European quarter of the city. This is fairly quiet on weekends with the European parliament and surrounding offices being closed. Good if you want peace and quiet but definitely not in the heart of the action.
It was about 200m away from Luxemborg Square which contains several bars and restaurants, bus links and a taxi rank. (about 8 Euros to the grand place). We stopped off here for a drink on one of the nights and there was little or no excitement so swiftly made our way to the lively Saint Gery (right near the Grand place where all the good bars and restaurants are)
The Grand place which is the main Square of the city and close to many of the attractions, bars, restaurants and shopping is only about 20 minutes walk away (Girls beware: do not attempt to walk this in heels - high heels and cobblestones do not bode well together!)
Troon metro station was also about 5 mins walk away and from there only a few stops on the metro. I arrived in Belgium by Eurostar so was able to get the metro from the Eurostar stop (Gare du midi) to troon which is on the same line and takes only about 10 mins.
Rooms
We stayed in a Deluxe room which was very spacious with Kingsize bed, armchair, work desk, bar fridge, coffee table, wardrobe and large bathroom with bath and shower.
The room also contained hairdryer, toiletries, ironing board, tea and coffee making facilities, hi speed internet access, phone, safe ice bucket and even a speaker in the bathroom so you could listen to the TV whilst showering!
The Bed was just divine - huge and extremely soft and luxurious with loads of pillows. This was a wonderful treat after a long day walking around the city.
Remote controlled air conditioning and windows which actually opened also made for a very comfortable stay.
Service
The multilingual staff were extremely helpful and well mannered and were quite willing to go out of their way to give directions, suggest restaurants and bars and even pointed me in the right direction of H&M and Zara!
We arrived well before the check in hour of 3pm to see if we could leave our bags there - not only were the more than happy to mind them for us but they did check for any available rooms so we could check in early. Unfortunately there were none ready so they made sure this was done as a matter of urgency and were able to check in several hours early.
Price
I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked at the rate board inside the hotel. A deluxe room rate was 322 Euros per night! Breakfast was quite pricey too at 25 Euros for a buffet breakfast.
I however booked through Expedia and got a nightly rate of £50 including breakfast! By far the cheapest 5 star hotel I have ever stayed in. Fantastic value for money!
I also noticed on the room service menu that wine by the glass began from 2.60 Euros! Not bad for room service rates!
Other hotel services
The hotel contained a gym which was far from your pokey hotel gym with one machine and some hand weights. It was a complete gym with cardio, machine weights, free weights, studio classes, pool, spa and sauna. (Better than my regular gym in the UK!)
There was also a hotel restaurant which offered breakfast, lunch and dinner. I only visited the restaurant for breakfast however the breakfast buffet was outstanding. Cereals, yoghurts, fresh bread in almost every variety, spreads, cold meats, full hot buffet, juices, coffee - the list is endless!
There is also a small hotel bar which has happy hour on certain nights and 24 hour room service.
The hotel also offers a variety of services for a fee such as dry cleaning and baby sitting and even has a car rental desk inside the lobby!
