The hotel is within walking distance of the city's colonial zone and craft market, and El Conde Peatonal shopping street. Built in 1956 by dictator Raphael Trujillo and closed after his assassination, the hotel added a 10 story tower before reopening in 1989. The Renaissance hotel consists of 300 rooms in two separate buildings: the 10 story Jaragua Tower and the two level Jaragua Gardens Estates. Rooms are decorated in warm yellows and greens with white rattan furniture. Boasting the largest size rooms in Santo Domingo, each features multiple phones, refrigerator, and marble bathroom. Advantages: Eating yourself to bursting point in the fully inclusive hotels Disadvantages: Not much to do and rip off prices
My husband and I were really looking forward to wandering round local markets and picking up unusual souvenirs in the Dominican Republic but, unfortunately, holidays in the Dominican Republic are not for people who want to travel around and experience the country for themselves.
We were in an all inclusive, which was just as well, because there was nowhere to go outside the hotel complex. The complex itself was lovely and there were only 2 hours in the day when you couldn't get food (2pm-4pm) which was brilliant.
The trips on offer were pretty expensive which meant we couldn't really afford to do many and, if you wanted to hire a taxi you had to find a couple of other folk to go with you as the taxis were really people carriers and it was approximately £50 to hire them for a couple of hours to go to the nearby city of Santo ...

The Renaissance Hamburg Hotel is part of the worldwide Marriott chain and offers the excellent accommodations that you would expect from Marriott but with the flair that you would normally expect from the Renaissance team. As with other properties in this brand hotels are branded by Renaissance but owned and managed locally adding real local colour to the hotel.
Booking:
Book via the Marriott website, and they guarantee that you will get their cheapest rates (the best rate is usually from 110 euros (approx £60.00) per night) for a twin/double room. Many rates are available and most options come with or without breakfast.
There are single rooms and double rooms (i.e. 1 king bed or two doubles) that would accommodate 2 or 4 respectively. In addition, the corner Junior Suites offer additional space and more often than not ...
Advantages: Cheapest 5 star property in KL. Excellent western property. Great facilities and staff. Disadvantages: Not as fresh as other 5* properties but at this price, who cares??!
When I first moved to Malaysia I didn?t realise how cheap the hotels were out there. It was only once I got talking to the locals did I realise how cheap you could holiday for in Kuala Lumpur. A good 4* hotel room could be as cheap as £15 a night! I soon decided to investigate this further and look at what you could actually get for your £ in this amazing city.
When I lived in Malaysia I lived about 1hr from Kuala Lumpur in a small town. On the weekends KL is where it was ?at? so I soon began staying in hotels there for the weekend. My first foray into the KL hotel scene was with the Renaissance, a good western brand that is part of the Marriott group.
In September 2005 I decided to give the Renaissance a go and here is my story.
