Advantages: Very quiet considering location, easy access to food and services Disadvantages: Hell to get to if you're travelling on foot.
...I spent New Year in Hounslow, which is near Heathrow airport for those of you not in the know. I was to meet my good friend from Chicago on New Years Eve and we stayed at Hounslow because of a) geographical convenience and b) it was just £19 a night. Hounslow falls under zone 5 on the underground, so if you were to stay there for a week, 7 days travel on the tube, buses, overground services and trams in zones 1-5 will cost around £35, which is exceptionally good value.
I'm a regular user of Travelodge hotels and I like to think I know a fair bit about hotel standards, having been a housekeeper for 2 years. Travelodge is an openly no-frills hotel chain. The shops are uninspiring, busy with too few operators and long queues.
I have been to quite a few airports and I would not give Heathrow even three stars! Unfortunately, as BA have a monopoly on flights out of Scotland some of us have little choice but to use Heathrow....
